Guru vokasional yang kompeten merupakan tulang belakang kepada pengajaran dan pembelajaran yang berkesan dalam Pendidikan dan Latihan Teknikal Vokasional (PLTV). Pembangunan profesional efektif dapat memastikan pengetahuan dan kemahiran guru berada pada standard yang diperlukan. Kajian ini mengenal pasti hubungan antara pembangunan profesional efektif dengan kompetensi guru vokasional dan elemen-elemen pembangunan profesional efektif yang menjadi peramal utama kepada kompetensi guru vokasional. Kajian ini merupakan tinjauan keratan rentas yang melibatkan 137 orang guru sekolah yang dipilih melalui pensampelan pelbagai peringkat di salah satu negeri di Malaysia. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan hubungan positif yang signifikan antara pembangunan profesional efektif dengan kompetensi guru vokasional. Analisis lanjutan elemen pembangunan profesional efektif menunjukkan elemen pembelajaran aktif di dalam kelas, fokus kandungan pengajaran, penglibatan kolektif dan koheren menjadi peramal yang signifikan kepada kompetensi guru vokasional. Hasil kajian ini penting kepada pihak-pihak yang berkenaan, termasuk pentadbir sekolah, penyedia latihan guru vokasional, Bahagian Pendidikan Dan Latihan Teknikal Vokasional (BPLTV) dan guru-guru vokasional dalam mereka bentuk program pembangunan profesional efektif yang dapat meningkatkan kompetensi guru vokasional pada standard yang ditetapkan. Ini selaras dengan perancangan dasar kerajaan untuk menjadikan Pelan Pembangunan Profesionalisme Guru sebagai sebahagian daripada kaedah meningkatkan kualiti guru dari aspek pengetahuan, kemahiran dan profesionalisme.
