Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) merupakan universiti awam di Malaysia yang berorientasikan bidang pendidikan guru sebagai bidang utama. Sejajar dengan saranan kerajaan untuk melestarikan kampus di Malaysia, UPSI telah memulakan langkah ke arah merealisasikan target tersebut. Namun begitu, pelaksanaan kampus lestari yang berkesan perlu bermula daripada kesedaran dalam kalangan komuniti kampus itu sendiri. Kajian ini telah mengenal pasti lima aspek tumpuan utama yang mana prinsip-prinsip kampus lestari perlu diterap dan dilaksanakan untuk membolehkan sesebuah kampus mencapai kelestariannya. Aspek-aspek tersebut meliputi aspek kurikulum, penyelidikan, operasi kampus, perkhidmatan dan jangkauan luar di peringkat komuniti, kebangsaan dan antarabangsa serta perancangan dan pembangunan bangunan dan persekitaran fizikal kampus. Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengenal pasti tahap kesedaran pelajar-pelajar UPSI terhadap prinsip-prinsip kampus lestari, seterusnya menganalisis hubungan antara pengetahuan, sikap dan tingkah laku pelajar dengan tahap kesedaran mereka terhadap prinsip-prinsip kampus lestari tersebut. Data diperoleh secara kuantitatif melalui kaedah soal selidik. Seramai 377 orang pelajar telah dipilih secara rawak berstrata untuk terlibat dengan soal selidik yang dijalankan. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan bahawa tahap kesedaran pelajar UPSI terhadap prinsip-prinsip kampus lestari adalah tinggi dengan nilai min 3.60. Hasil kajian juga mendapati bahawa wujud hubungan yang signifikan dan kuat antara tahap kesedaran dengan pengetahuan dan sikap pelajar dengan nilai r = 0.895 masing-masing. Manakala wujud hubungan yang lemah antara tahap kesedaran dengan tingkah laku pelajar dengan nilai r = 0.459. Ini menunjukkan bahawa pengetahuan yang tinggi dengan jelas mempengaruhi sikap pelajar terhadap kepentingan amalan kelestarian di kampus. Sebaliknya, tahap kesedaran dan pengetahuan yang tinggi, serta sikap pelajar yang positif terhadap pelaksanaan prinsip-prinsip kampus lestari tidak semestinya menjamin amalan lestari yang cemerlang dalam kalangan mereka. Galakan tingkah laku lestari dalam kalangan pelajar UPSI memerlukan unsur-unsur situasi lain seperti penguatkuasaan atau pengiktirafan yang perlu dilaksanakan seperti yang dicadangkan oleh segelintir teori-teori tingkah laku terdahulu.
