Year of Publication :2017

Full Text :
The main objective of this study is to identify the performance level of the businesses run by female entrepreneurs in the East Coast region and its association with the Strength and Weakness factors. To achieve these objectives, the study was conducted in three selected areas, namely in Besut, Pasar Payang (Kuala Terengganu) and Pasir Mas. A total of 300 questionnaires is distributed, and an amount of 280 sets is returned. The data are analyzed by using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) Version 17. The findings from the performance analysis reported, the majority of the entrepreneurs experience Growth (90.71%), while 21.8% experience Status Quo and the last 0.36% claimed to have experienced a Decline in performance. The success story achieved by the majority of the entrepreneurs brings this study to a deeper level; specifically to the Strength and the Weakness analyses. The results for the Strength analysis is divided into two factors; the Internal and the External/environmental factors. The Internal factors (own self attributes) consist of items 14 (Independent and risk taker), 15 (Self confidence), 16 (High interests in business); while the External/Environmental factors consist of items 1 (Strategic business location), 2 (Choice of the type of business the right), 6 (Good network of suppliers and buyers), and 7 (Good business culture and entrepreneurship spirit). The overall (aggregate) means the score value of the Strength analysis is 4.11. The results for the Weakness analysis discover the highest mean score values (>3.5) are documented in items 4 (High competition) and 1 (Insufficient capital), while other items have recorded the mean score values of less than 3.5. The overall (aggregate) mean value for the Weakness analysis is 2.83. Comparatively, the mean difference between the two aggregate scores provide indication the effect of the Weakness factors is relatively marginal compared to the effect of the Strength factor.
