Universiti awam sedang mengalami perubahan peranan dengan pesat. Ini mendorong kepada perubahan amalan kepimpinan para pentadbir akademik universiti. Berlaku pertembungan antara tradisi autonomi dengan kemunculan kawalan dan pemantauan dari agensi pusat. Kepimpinan distributif dilihat berpotensi untuk menawarkan satu bentuk kepimpinan yang lebih seimbang dalam persekitaran yang berubah ini. Kajian kualitatif ini bertujuan untuk meneroka tahap amalan kepimpinan distributif di kalangan pentadbir akademik di sebuah universiti awam di Malaysia. Kajian kes telah dipilih sebagai reka bentuk kajian. Model kepimpinan distributif Gordon (2005), berdasarkan empat dimensi utama iaitu misi, visi dan matlamat organisasi; budaya organisasi; amalan kepimpinan; dan tanggungjawab bersama telah dijadikan panduan dalam membangunkan objektif dan soalan kajian. Data kajian dikutip menggunakan teknik temu bual berdasarkan soalan separa berstuktur. Seramai 15 responden terdiri dari dekan, timbalan dekan, dan ketua jabatan akademik telah terlibat. Data temu bual dianalisis melalui proses pengekodan yang sistematik untuk mencari kategori atau tema. Berdasarkan analisis tema ke atas empat dimensi utama kajian, tema tertinggi yang muncul secara konsisten adalah dimensi amalan kepimpinan, diikuti oleh dimensi tanggungjawab bersama, dimensi visi, misi, matlamat organisasi, dan dimensi budaya organisasi. Sebagai rumusan, dapatan kajian menunjukkan bahawa amalan kepimpinan distributif di kalangan pentadbir akademik dilaksanakan secara meluas dan menepati prinsip-prinsip utama kepimpinan distributif. Dapatan ini menunjukkan bahawa pemimpin universiti berupaya mengamalkan kepimpinan distributif dalam usaha menyesuaikan dengan persekitaran yang berubah.
