Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji sejauh mana kaedah pengajaran Total Physical
Response (TPR) dapat meningkatkan pencapaian pelajar menguasai kosa kata bahasa
Mandarin berbanding dengan kaedah pengajaran konvensional. Selain itu, kajian ini
juga bertujuan untuk mengkaji sejauh mana kaedah pengajaran TPR dapat
meningkatkan kesan memori pelajar terhadap kosa kata bahasa Mandarin berbanding
dengan kaedah pengajaran konvensional. Reka bentuk kajian kuasi-eksperimen
digunakan dalam kajian ini. Kajian ini menggunakan ujian pra, ujian pasca, soal selidik
dan temubual sebagai instrumen. Responden kajian adalah pelajar universiti bukan
penutur natif bahasa Mandarin yang sedang mengikuti kursus bahasa Mandarin sebagai
bahasa asing pada peringkat permulaan. Sampel kajian dibahagi kepada dua kumpulan
iaitu 32 orang pelajar dalam kumpulan rawatan yang diajar dengan menggunakan
kaedah pengajaran TPR dan 32 orang pelajar dalam kumpulan kawalan yang diajar
dengan menggunakan kaedah pengajaran konvensional. Dalam ujian pasca tiga, nilai p
