Measuring peak angular velocity of knee extension during unloaded kicking: a pilot study
A. Malik Zulezwan, - Jos Vanrenterghem, Burniston Jatin G.,
Journal of Sports Science and Physical Education 5(2): 9-14, 2016 - Jump squat tests can be used to investigate the differences in the force - velocity (f-v) profile in movement that is more a sport-specific than isolated exercises such as open chain leg extension. However, squat jumps involve multi-joint movement, making it questionable which muscle is the main contributor for the movement. The main aim of this study is to develop a test of isolated knee extension that encompasses the entire range of human f-v relationship and to investigate the correlation between linear encoder and kinematic measurement of angular velocity using a camera system during unloaded kicking. One healthy male subject volunteered to participate in the study and performed 10 unloaded kicks (knee extension). A cuff was strapped around the lower leg, approximately 2 cm above the medial malleoli and connected to a linear velocity encoder (MuscleLab Ergotest version 4010, Norway). During the test sessions, three.....

Identification Of Ige-Binding Proteins Of Male and Female Scylla Serrata (Mud Crab) Preliminary Results
Abdul Rahman Nurul Izzah, Misnan Rosmilah, Mohd Yadzir Zailatul Hani,
Crab represents valuable nutrient source of protein, nutrients and functional lipids, is widely consumed. However the prevalence of crab allergy has increased over the past few years. In order to better understand local crab allergy, it is necessary to identify crab allergens. Multiple crab allergens including tropomyosin and arginine kinase have been identified as major allergens in various species of crab. Scylla serrata (mud crab) is an economically important crab species found in the Indo-Pacific region. So, the aim of this study was to identify the IgE-binding proteins of male and female Scylla serrata (mud crab). The raw extracts were prepared from the crab meat. The protein profiles and IgE-reactivity pattern were then identified by sodium dodecyl sulphate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) and immunoblotting technique using sera from 10 patients with mud crab allergy. SDS-PAGE analysis of the male and female crab extracts revealed 19 protein bands ranging from 12 to .....

Effects of production systems and ozone treatment on nitrate content and E. coli 0157H7 contaminations of Butterhead lettuce
Siti Fairuz Yusoff
Butterhead lettuce, a salad crop pose to food safety risk issues because it is normally consume raw. The information regarding nitrate and Escherichia coli 0157:H7 contaminations status on Butterhead lettuce in Malaysia is still scanty. Not much work of this nature is carried out locally. Recently, an outbreak of E. coli was happened in Germany, which one of the most stringent countries in term of food safety on fresh produce. Hence, this study seemed inevitable to be carried out. The first experiment, a market study, to determine the level of nitrate and E. coli 0157:H7 contaminations of Butterhead lettuce. The result showed that nitrate levels exceeded the maximum limit but the bacteria contaminations were still under safe limit. The second experiment was to determine the effect of harvesting stage on the nitrate content, quality and nitrate reductase activity (NRA) of Butterhead lettuce, grown by hydroponic and organic systems. After 35, 38,41 and 44 days of transplanting (DAT), the.....

Thai hierarchical culture influences undergraduate nursing students learning
- Chittinan Pongsuwan, Boddy Julie, Woods Martin, Balthip Quantar,
Journal of Sports Science and Physical Education 5(1): 9-21, 2016 - Low passing rates in the Thai licence test of graduating nurses from a nursing college programme raised a critical question as to why the students could not integrate theoretical knowledge into clinical nursing care. There are many studies about learning environments and strategies to improve the student nurses’ competence. However, which conditions and learning strategies should be used, and when they should be applied in the process of learning had not been fully investigated, and especially so within the Thai system. This study uses a Straussian grounded theory approach to explore the perspectives of 32 undergraduate nursing students on their learning in the clinical context. The findings relating to learning within the hierarchical culture of Thai nursing showed that inattentive supervision plays a crucial role in creating an inappropriate clinical learning environment for nursing students leading to a loss of le.....

Ionothermal synthesis of metal aluminophosphates
Mazlina Musa
The aim of this thesis was to synthesise CoAPO-34 and FeAPO-34 using ionothermal synthesis in the presence of organic amines. Using this method provides an alternative route to prepare such materials under low pressure instead of the higher pressure associated with hydrothermal or solvothermal synthesis. Both materials have chabazite (CHA) topology and they are known to act as catalysts. CoAPO-34 was ionothermally prepared using 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide (EMIMBr) in presence of 1, 6-hexadiamine (HDA). This study has found that when the synthesis was carried out without HDA, AIPO-11 was preferentially obtained instead of CoAPO-34. Broad line signals which appear between 2000 to 5000 ppm in both spin-echo 31 P NMR spectra of as-synthesised and calcined CoAPO-34 confirm that the C02+ ions have been successfully incorporated within the framework of the material. FeAPO-34 was synthesised under ionothermal conditions using 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride in the presence of eth.....

An Assessment in Mathematics Education : Different Modes Of Assessing Learner Teachers
Abu Saman Mas Norbany, Mohd Tajudin Nor‘ain, Lee Abdullah Mohd Faizal,
There has been a vigorous debate for many years on how assessment can affect students‘ performances. Even if differences have an impact on pupils‘ academic progress this still leaves unanswered important questions about what mediates the effect. This study is conducted to inform the student‘s attainment in different modes of assessing and the relationship between genders in the three modes of assessment. The students‘ preference in assessment was also explored. The quantitative study is based on an analysis of 39 students who are doing their degree programme in collaboration with Canterbury Christ Church University. The methods used were questionnaires and interviews. The results showed the performance of students was average. Only oral presentation showed the girls‘ preferences more than the other modes. In addition, as educators we can use these different modes of assessment to evaluate the students‘ performance in mathematics...
