Students’ perceptions on mathematics problem-solving in secondary school

Problem-solving is one of the most important skills for students to learn, as it will be applied in their career development and future. However, many students encountered difficulty with their school assignments related to problem-solving questions. This study investigated the perceptions among secondary school students regarding mathematics problem-solving questions. The study used a quantitative approach. Through a questionnaire, data were collected from 106 students from a secondary school located in Johor who were selected as respondents. The questionnaire focused on the perceptions of male and female students in problem-solving questions and the difficulties encountered by students in dealing with these types of questions. All respondents needed to identify the strategies or techniques to answer mathematics problem-solving questions. Phytochemical studies from Magnolia alba and their antioxidant activity

The purposes of this study were to investigate the phytochemicals and antioxidant activity from Magnolia alba (Magnoliaceae). The antioxidant activity was investigated using total phenolic content and DPPH free radical scavenging assay. Isolation and purification of the leaf extracts of M. alba yielded six phytochemicals identified as squalene (1), parthenolide (2), vanillin (3), stigmasterol acetate (4), friedelin (5), and β-sitosterol (6). In antioxidant activity, the hexane extract of M. alba showed the highest value of phenolic content with 206.7 mg GAE/g, whereas methanol extract gave the highest inhibition in DPPH assay with 36.0%. However, all compounds were found weak activity in DPPH assay. The implication of this study demonstrates that M. alba could represent a source of molecules with antioxidant potential in the prevention of free radical-related diseases such as atherosclerosis and diabetes. Modular Distance Learning Modality and Students’ Learning Mechanisms in Physics: A Grounded Theory

Issues in science education in the Philippines have existed until now. The existing learning issues are aggravated by the COVID-19 pandemic as the educational system shifts to a distance learning modality. With the sudden shift in learning modality, learning issues manifest, especially in subjects that require guidance from teachers, such as physics. This qualitative study aimed to explore and generate theory utilizing the Glaserian inductive method of theory generation, focusing on the learning mechanisms of learners in the modular distance learning modality in the subject of physics. Arabic education in Malaysian schools has taken a systematic turn to keep up with the need to comprehend the fundamental sources of Islam: the Quran, prophetic sayings, and other Islamic Sciences. Today, the Jawi, Quran, Arabic, and Fardhu Ain (JQAF) Program has substantially contributed to Malaysia's consolidation of Arabic education. From being an optional subject, it was later declared a mandatory subject for all Malaysian students in national primary schools to secondary school. The proposed virtual classroom is aimed at addressing the challenges faced by teachers in teaching the Arabic language as there is no one standardized platform for sharing teaching and learning Arabic materials. Forecasting the monthly temperature and rainfall in Chuping Perlis

This study focuses on the forecasting of monthly temperature and rainfall patterns in Chuping, Perlis, with the aim of providing valuable insights into the region's climate. Various forecasting methods were employed, including Simple Seasonal Exponential Smoothing (SSES), Holt Winter Additive, Holt Winter Multiplicative, and Seasonal ARIMA. The accuracy of these models was assessed using key error metrics such as Mean Absolute Error (MAE), Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), and Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE). The results of the analysis revealed that the Simple Seasonal Exponential Smoothing (SSES) model consistently outperformed the other methods, exhibiting the lowest error metrics for both temperature and rainfall forecasts. Specifically, for monthly temperature, the lowest error metrics values were found to be 0.401 for MAE, 0.465 for RMSE, and 1.434 for MAPE. Foliar Fertilization in Hybrid Rice

This study examines the efficacy of commercially available fertilizers and organic foliar fertilizers in enhancing the harvest of SL-8H hybrid rice. It aims to address several key questions related to the effects of these fertilizers on various parameters, such as yield, plant height, number of tillers, panicle length, quality based on farmers' preferences, and economic analysis. A Randomized Complete Block Design was used to collect data on the effectiveness of fertilizers in different garden plots. SL-8H rice yield and quality were significantly influenced by both commercial and organic foliar fertilizers. In terms of yield, plant height, number of tillers, and panicle length, organic foliar fertilizers, particularly those derived from Malunggay leaves and molasses, as well as banana peels and molasses, demonstrate comparable or even superior performance compared to commercial fertilizers. Development and validation of localized interactive game (LIGA) as a tool for enrichment and enhancement activity

The use of game for mathematics teaching has widely been explored. However, development of localized game is limited especially in the context of Sorsogon province. This descriptive-developmental study developed a localized interactive game for grade 7 content topics which may serve as an enrichment activity for grade 7 and enhancement activity for grade 8. The localized concepts featured the local setting of Sorsogon province and was designed to provide students way to interact with the game and other students. The content of the game, up-to-datedness of information, and other details about the manipulative, passed the validation of 7 experts. Also, the game was found to be acceptable for the 32 student-respondents. Furthermore, revisions for improvement of the game were made for the game to better achieve its objectives. Awareness of technological advancements in education is crucial to ensure that teaching and learning methods are more relevant and effective. Artificial intelligence (AI) is a new emerging technology in education, enabling computers to have human-like cognition. However, research on the effectiveness of AI technology in teaching and learning (TaL) science subjects is still limited. This literature review aims to identify trends, impacts, and challenges of AI implementation in science learning. The review employs a systematic review method consisting of four steps: framing research questions, searching for relevant articles or journals, reading and analyzing abstracts, and extracting information from the articles or journals. Sustainable household waste management is crucial for any nation. Currently, Malaysia relies heavily on landfilling as a waste disposal method. Unfortunately, most of the waste disposed of is recyclable. One of the contributing factors to householders' unwillingness to recycle is inadequate collection systems. The implementation of an efficient system for collecting recyclable waste would contribute to the improvement of Malaysia's waste management infrastructure, particularly regarding the restricted availability of suitable landfill space in the future. Therefore, this study employed the Miller-Tucker-Zimmer Travelling Salesmen Problem (MTZ-TSP) as a framework to address the issue of collection routing for recyclable material within household areas.
