Integrating reader response theory into EFL Classroom at Farhangian University

The integration of literature in TEFL has recently achieved a profound status. The applicability and efficiency of RRT in EFL settings are great educational objectives. This article deals with the introduction of Reader Response Theory to language teaching in Teacher Training Centers. The subjects were 120 sophomore students at Farhangian University, Shahid Modaress and Imam Jafar-e-Sadegh Campuses. An experimental design was used in the study. Instead of offering the regular teaching textbooks, eight grade-three short stories were presented for language teaching purposes. The data analysis revealed that the application of RRA to teaching general English in Farhangian University proved to be highly successful and it improved the learners’ language learning significantly. This proved to be highly successful with girls than boys. The incorporation of Reader Response Theory is highly recommended in university curriculum for better language learning and teaching.  ..

Google Translate vs. DeepL: a quantitative evaluation of close-language pair translation (French to English)

Machine translation has improved in quality and worked best when applied to language pair of the same language family. This research was aimed to assess the quality of Google Translate and DeepL in terms of accuracy and readability. French to English translation data of En attendant Godot playscript by GT and DeepL were evaluated. The English Original version (EO) of the text served as reference. Two quantitative methods were employed i.e., manual with SAE J2450 translation metric and automatic assessment with Coh Metrix tool. The result of manual assessment shows that GT and DeepL outputs passed the grade, scoring 84 and 99.04 respectively. Referring to CdT Rubric, a translation is good when it has 80 - 99 points. In Coh-Metrix result GT and DeepL scores varied. Statistical analysis with ANOVA shows that GT and DeepL are not significantly different from EO. Kajian ini dijalankan untuk meneliti tahap amalan kelestarian pemprosesan makanan (KPM), menganalisis sumbangan faktor peramal dari aspek pengetahuan, kesedaran, sikap, norma subjektif, persepsi kawalan tingkah laku dan norma peribadi terhadap amalan KPM, serta melihat perbezaan amalan KPM dari aspek prasarana rumah kedai berbanding kampus. Kerangka konseptual dibentuk berdasarkan Teori Tingkah Laku Terancang, Model Sistem Perubahan Tingkah Laku, Model Peramal Tingkah Laku Bertanggungjawab Alam Sekitar dan Model Tingkah Laku Pro-Alam Sekitar. Pendekatan kuantitatif dengan reka bentuk kajian tinjauan menggunakan soal selidik kelestarian pemprosesan makanan (i-KProM) yang telah disahkan kandungan oleh lima orang pakar, serta telah diuji kesahan konstruk menggunakan analisis EFA (Exploratory Analysis Factor) dan kebolehpercayaan, dengan nilai alfa Cronbach (α= 0.93) telah digunakan sebagai alat kajian. Penulisan karya kreatif ini membincangkan tentang kanak-kanak seharusnya menjadi kanak-kanak dalam apa jua yang mereka lakukan. Mereka juga bebas untuk meneroka, bereksperimen dan menjadi diri mereka sendiri tanpa ditetapkan oleh orang dewasa khususnya dalam melakukan aktiviti harian mereka sebagai kanakkanak seperti bermain dan belajar. Penekanan kepada peri pentingnya pengalaman meneroka dan mengalami sendiri suasana ini diaplikasikan dalam penghasilan karya Tali Tamplom yang mana kanak-kanak ini tidak terikat kepada arahan orang dewasa khususnya dalam menetapkan apa yang perlu dilakukan, sebaliknya membiarkan mereka berekspresi dan membuat interpretasi dengan cadangan yang diberi awal. The moderating effect of supervisor support on the relationship between flexible working arrangements, work-family conflict and employee performance

This study aimed to examine the moderating effect of supervisor support (SS) on the relationship between flexible working arrangements (FWAs), work-family conflict (WFC) and employee performance (EP). This study primarily focused on the organizations that adopted flexible working arrangement (FWA). The selected organizations were obtained from the report by TalentCorp Malaysia FWAs in collaboration with Malaysian Employer Federation (MEF). The questionnaires were distributed to 304 employees of the selected organizations through Human Resource Department. The sample was selected using the purposive sampling technique. The data were analysed using Binary Logistic Regression. This study found that there was a significant negative effect of work interference with family (WIF) (B = 2.672, p =.015) and family interference with work (FIW) (B = 3.425, p =.022) on job quality performance (JQP); and WIF (B =1.868, p =.034) and FIW (B = 2.001, p =.041) on task performance (TP). Gamification rewards in motivating tertiary students during a pandemic

Gamification is being used in education to motivate students through various game elements, one of which is rewards. However, rewards should be relevant and suitable otherwise it will not have the desired effect. The aim of this study was to determine the types of redeemable rewards that students in an Institution of Higher Learning would like to obtain to motivate them to do well in their modules or programmes. A questionnaire, which included close and open ended questions, was distributed to students in a local private institution. 158 completed questionnaires were obtained from students who were in Foundation, Diploma, Bachelors and Masters degree programmes. The questionnaire included some suggestions of rewards and students were asked to rank them. They were also asked to suggest some rewards which they thought would motivate and engage them to attempt and complete work given in class or as homework. Therefore, this study tried to investigate the faculty members’ ideas about Augmented Reality English Trainer (ARET) as a researcher-made application in the contexts of Iran and Turkey to ensure how educational beneficiaries can implement this application in face-to-face or distance education, and how their views are different. The aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of the Brain-based Learning Approach in enhancing vocabulary acquisition and retention among Year 4 pupils in a primary school. The strategy implemented was based on Brain-Based Learning Principles. The goal of Brain-based education is to make the utmost use of the situations in which the brain learns the best. Hence, it can be said that brain-based learning in the classroom demonstrates an innovative approach which enhances positive learning conditions for school children. Vocabulary acquisition is an important component in second language acquisition, and it becomes more meaningful when retention of the words learnt is maximized. A study on teachers\ deportments and pedagogical skills at the intermediate level in an EFL context

The study depicted the classroom environment during the teaching and learning process, focusing on appraising the teachers' demeanour and pedagogical strategies in the intermediate classrooms of the 'English as foreign language (EFL)' context of Bangladesh. The intermediate level denotes the higher secondary level of the 11th and 12th grades. Sixteen teachers of eight intermediate institutions from three districts of Bangladesh were selected as the key participants of this study. The study used two tools: classroom observation and interview. The researchers observed the teachers' deportments both from the outside and inside the classroom. The teachers and the students were observed to understand the current classroom scenario by evaluating the teacher's interactions, abilities and inabilities to manage the EFL classrooms. Faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi penerimaan pelanggan terhadap pelaksanaan ar-rahnu di Kota Langsa, Aceh

Kajian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi penerimaan pelanggan terhadap pelaksanaan ar-Rahnu di Kota Langsa, Aceh. Kajian kuantitatif ini menggunakan  boring soal selidik ini melibatkan 185 responden yang dipilih melalui pensampelan rawak. Data  dianalisis dengan menggunakan analisis regresi pelbagai. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan bahawa faktor  tempat (β= 0.301, p= 0.001), produk (β=0.257, p=0.004), dan promosi (β=0.200, p=0.020), secara  signifikan mempengaruhi penerimaan pelanggan. Namun faktor harga (β=0.143, p=0.147) tidak  berpengaruh secara signifikan penerimaan pelanggan terhadap pelaksanaan ar-Rahnu. Implikasi kajian  mengetengahkan tentang kepentingan peranan institusi ar-Rahnu yang perlu diperkemas bagi membantu  masyarakat memahami sistem pajak gadai Islam dengan lebih baik dan menjadikannya sebagai alternatif  bagi pajak gadai konvensional yang telah lama digunakan.
