322 | 2024 Article | Moon Phases: A Brief Overview of Android Application Development in Science Subject Noor Hidayah Che Lah Moon phases are the part of the moon shape that is directly illuminated by the sun as seen from the earth. The moon phases change gradually in about 27 days as the positions of the moon's orbit around the earth and the earth's orbit around the sun shift. The part of the moon that can be seen is from the reflection of sunlight and it depends on the position of the moon in its orbit. However, most students do not clearly understand the concept of moon phases and were unable to explain the factors that influence the occurrence of moon phases, identify changes in the shape of moon phases, sketch the order according to the sequence of moon phases and name the moon phases. As a result, the purpose of this research is to create an android application for the moon phases topic, which also serves as a medium of teaching aids for teachers and students. The foundational knowledge elements through the 3x3 Model of 21st Century Learning have been embedded through this android application. The metho..... 9 hits |
323 | 2024 Article | Prediction of Rainfall Trends Using Forecasting Approaches Based on Singular Spectrum Analysis Shazlyn Milleana Shaharudin Advanced technologies such as the Internet of Things provide an integrated platform for weather focusing, including rainfall and flood prediction. Large rainfall data frequently contain noise, which can be difficult to analyze using a standard time series model due to violated assumptions. Singular spectrum analysis (SSA) is a model-free time series analysis method that is widely used. This study aims to predict the rainfall trends in the Special Region of Yogyakarta, Indonesia, using the Recurrent SSA (SSA-R) and Vector SSA (SSA-V). The SSA-R forecasts using the recurrent continuation directly with the linear recurrent formula, while the SSA-V is a modified recurrent method. This study used 50 years of monthly rainfall data (1970-2019) from 25 stations in the special region of Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The SSA steps for forecasting rainfall data include decomposition (embedding and singular value decomposition), reconstruction (grouping and diagonal averaging), and evaluating the SSA mod..... 7 hits |

325 | 2024 Article | Fabrication and characterization of a novel mullite-stainless steel composed hollow fibre membrane for oil/water separation Suriani Abu BAkar Low-cost mullite-kaolinite material has recently received more attention as an alternative to conventional ceramic materials such as alumina and silica to prepare ceramic hollow fibre membranes (CHFMs) due to its high alumina contents and silica and thermal/chemical stability. However, weak bending strength is still one of the key bottlenecks that delay their commercial applications. In this work, we successfully fabricate a novel mullite-SS HFM with enhanced bending strength using mullite-kaolinite power with different stainless steel alloy (SS) 316 L contents of 0.0, 2.5, 5.0, 7.5, 10 and 12 % (w/w) as a reinforcement material by phase inversion/sintering techniques. The SS alloy was a potential material to enhance the mechanical strength of mullite HFMs due to its excellent mechanical properties. The effects of the major fabrication parameters of SS contents, mullite contents, and fabrication parameters such as air gap distance and bore fluid flow rates were well studied and evaluat..... 3 hits |
326 | 2024 Article | Game-Based Learning: Current Practices and Perceptions of Secondary School Physics Teachers in Malaysia Balamuralithara Balakrishnan, Mohd Ikhwan Hadi Yaacob A plethora of studies showed the effectiveness of game-based learning (GBL) in enhancing students’ learning and motivation. There has been increasing academic interest in GBL. However, a review of past literature in this context shows that teachers’ attitudes, in general, toward GBL and the actual adoption of GBL in teaching physics by secondary school teachers in Malaysia have not been addressed in-depth or addressed only to a minor extent in past studies. This article sheds new light on secondary school physics teachers’ perceptions of GBL usage, the implementation level of GBL in teaching physics, and teachers’ involvement in educational games design. A total of 211 secondary school physics teachers participated in this study. Quantitative data were collected via survey, and the main findings show that only 29.9 percent of teachers designed educational physics games and adopted the games in teaching physics. The implementation level of GBL in teaching physics at the secondar..... 20 hits |
