Sprouting employability skills in building technology students using cooperative learning approaches in Nigerian Polytechnics

This study investigated the areas of cooperative learning approaches for sprouting employability in polytechnic building technology students’ in Nigeria for the expertise of practice upon graduating from school using descriptive survey research design. Two research questions and four null hypotheses guided the study. The population for the study consisted of 99 building technology lecturers that offer building technology programmes in Federal, State and Private Polytechnics in South-East and South-South Nigeria. Since the population was not too large, there was no sampling. The instrument used for data collection was a 36-item  questionnaire derived from the literature reviewed. Five experts validated the instrument. Cronbach alpha reliability method was used to determine the reliability of the instrument and a reliability coefficient of 0.87 was obtained. This study aimed to determine the effect of RASOP (Rhyme Alliteration Syllable Onset-Rime Phonemes) Module towards word reading skills among the 5 years old kindergarten children. This study used Design and Development Research Approach (DDR) by Ritchey and Klein to develop the module. Based on this method, the study was divided into three phases. In the first phase, a survey using need analysis was conducted on 40 kindergarten children via score form as an instrument to identify the Phonological Awareness (PA) skills and level of reading 3- 4 letters of words. The interpretation of the first phase was based on the frequencies and percentages of scores. In the second phase, Fuzzy Delphi Method (FDM) approach was exploited to develop the module based on the opinions of 7 expert panels. The study was conducted to determine the predictive strength of a model of continuous assessment practices, teaching effectiveness and students’ personal studies for predicting students’ final grades. Thus the study investigated the influence of continuous assessment practices, teaching effectiveness, and students’ personal studies on the test scores of some selected junior secondary school students in Health and Physical Education in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State. Three null hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. The hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The population of the study was 4,042 while the sample size was 200 randomly selected from JSS III in Egor LGA of Edo State. This study aimed at determining the status of implementation and usefulness of Performance Task Evaluation (PTE) as an evaluation tool among Grade-VI pupils of Ramon District for the School Year 2018-2019. In this study, the implementation and usefulness of PTE were analyzed using quantitative research. In addition, related factors in implementing the evaluation model were determined. Then, based on the findings, programs and interventions were developed to improve the academic achievement of the Grade VI pupils through PTE. The respondents believed that PTE is being implemented in terms of practices. Therefore, the implementation of the PTE should be considered as a tool of evaluation. This research aims to investigate the quality of final examination test items given to the Computer and Networking Engineering students. The test items were developed by four chemistry teachers in the state vocational school (SVS) and private vocational school (PVS) in Bantul regency respectively. This research discusses on the quality of the test conducted and overall items developed by the chemistry teachers for both of SVS and PVS. The quality of the test items is measured by using four variables which are (1) material, construction, and language aspects, (2) cognitive level comparison, (3) the suitability of the materials tested to the materials covered in 2013 Curriculum, and (4) the suitability of the number of the test items given to the materials covered and time allocated.   Concerning on the rates social burden among the graduates of business education in Nigeria has provided an opportunity for the authors to extant the study to examine the current state of business education curriculum and the reformulation of business education curriculum equips the undergraduates with skills to start a business and engaging towards lifelong learning. A cross-sectional survey design was applied to achieve the objectives of the study. The design of the research is a quantitative method. Structured questionnaires were given to a sample of 289 participants (43 lecturers and 246 students) which were randomly selected across three universities in Nigeria. Students between ages 13 to 18 years old are exposed to have career development assignments of life focused on the education field such as choosing majors or career fields. Students see career decision making is always accompanied by feelings of doubt, uncertainty, and even stress. In the end, students make their choice on careers by just following the decisions of their peers, which is not necessarily the right decision for them. Their decision taken can lead to career success. The purpose of this study to determine the effect of the conformity of students' decision making for their careers. The quantitative research methods are used where the samples are 136 students of class XII. Data are obtained from the Likert scale instrument and analyzed using regression analysis. The impact of rater training on rater reliability in an English oral test

Speaking skill assessment is gaining great interest in the field of assessment nowadays. Literature has highlighted reliability of raters in rating a speaking performance as one of the challenges due to human’s subjective nature. This study has attempted to explore the influence of rater training on rater reliability in the assessment of a spoken task. A qualitative research design was used and, semi-structured interview was employed to obtain data for this study. A total of 21 secondary school teachers participated in the study. They were raters trained to assess an oral English interaction test. Data were analyzed using thematic content analysis which resulted in three main categories i.e. importance of rater training, effects of rater training on rater reliability, and improvement of rater training. Teachers conceptions and choices of assessment tasks in a Nigerian postgraduate teacher training

Student assessment is a process that entails the collection of evidence of learning in diverse and systematic ways to make judgments on students’ learning. What then is the perception of this vital tool in the hands of the users (teachers)? This study investigates teachers’ conceptions of assessment and their choices of assessment tasks in postgraduate teacher training. Action research with one group pretest-posttest design was adopted for the study. The survey used to collect data for this study has three sections (A, B, & C). Section A elicits participants’ personal information; Section B contains 20 different assessment tasks. Section C includes 26 items that examined participants’ conceptions of assessment from four different sub-scales (school accountability, student accountability, improvement of teaching and learning, and irrelevance factors).
