Identifying and assisting at-risk students through counselling interventions will provide better understanding of issues resulting from academic failure at school. This study explored the perspectives and approaches of eight school counsellors with regard to identifying and assisting students considered to be academically and behaviorally at-risk. Their perspectives and approaches are crucial because they reflect the counsellors' understanding and competency to deal with at-risk students. This research project consisted of two studies. The aim of the first was to explore the school counsellors' perspectives and approaches for identifying at-risk students at secondary school.
