Given the serious personal and societal consequences of adolescents dropping-out of school and behaving in self-destructive ways, it is very important to be able to identify students who are at risk of failure. Identifying and assisting at-risk students through counselling interventions will provide better understanding of issues resulting from academic failure at school. This study explored the perspectives and approaches of eight school counsellors with regard to identifying and assisting students considered to be academically and behaviorally at-risk. Their perspectives and approaches are crucial because they reflect the counsellors' understanding and competency to deal with at-risk students. This research project consisted of two studies.
