The early reception of tash aws narrative in Malaysia: an ecocritical interpretation of harmony within dissonance in the harmony silk factory

This article is part of the current ecocritical research that is being conducted on Tash Aw's works. It attempts to analyse Tash Aw's first novel The Harmony Silk Factory and investigate how he customizes the concept of harmony and dissonance in relation to human beings from the perspective of the recent and growing theory of ecocriticism. Through examining Aw's novel, the manipulation of nature in the hope of illustrating the plot of a novel is studied thoroughly. In this article, the ecocritical theory is used to approach the phenomenon of harmony and dissonance in nature in the context of human-nature relationship in the chosen novel. The ecocritical theory assists in revealing with what perspectives the nature is portrayed by Aw in his first novel. Engaging Malaysia: greening postcolonial memories in the garden of evening mists

The Garden of Evening Mists is a symbolically charged historical narrative about the ramifications of Japanese colonisation in Malaya in the 1940s. A prominent metaphor in this novel is the garden in memorium of the protagonists deceased sister. This article explores the greening of postcolonial memories of the Japanese colonisation of Malaya in the novel and its deep engagement of Malaysian framed within the social, political and historical contexts. Using postcolonial ecocriticism as a reading lens, the analysis is carried out to be emblematically functional across the limitations of space and time in the countrys colonial history. The analysis displays that the author, Tan Twan Eng, through his authorial-defined social reality, re-enacts numerous snapshots from the Malaysia ecosystem in order to achieve a coherent engagement of Malaysia pre, during and post Japanese occupation. Revisiting Ezra Pound: An Ecofeminist Approach to “The River-Merchant’s Wife: A Letter”

The paper focuses on one of intrinsic studies of literary works called ecofeminism. For the object of the current research, the author chooses one of Ezra Pound's poems, as is known to all, The River-Merchant’s Wife: A Letter. The author uses descriptive and analytic method in this paper. As is discussed, the author analyzes the potential ecofeminism by reading this poem carefully and giving a special attention for the lines that express and convey ecofeminism. Meanwhile, the author uses description and figure of speech analysis to build a concrete and poetic artistic conception in this poem. The findings suggest Ezra Pound spent a lot of conception and thinking on the description of environmental vision, including women and nature. On the one hand, the writing vision is tangible, evidenced by integrating his realistic living surroundings and the artistic conception in this poem.
