Historical thinking skills of pre-service teachers in secondary school studies methods course

This study examined the historical thinking skills and pedagogical reasoning of pre service teachers in a social studies methods course. The purpose of this study is to describe and compare the historical thinking skills and pedagogical content knowledge of the participants. Differences in the level of historical thinking abilities and pedagogical reasoning illustrated the differences between the participants. This study adds to current research about the teaching and learning of history by focusing on the relationship between historical thinking abilities and the ability to plan effective history lessons. Along with interviews and lesson plans, through this study I identified that participants with very strong and robust historical thinking skills possessed not only excellent historical knowledge but also excellent general knowledge that includes political, economic and geographical knowledge. The mastery level of bachelor degree practicum students of special education in the State oF Perak towards basic teaching skills

This study aims to identify the level of mastery of practicum students of special education on 11 basic skills of teaching. This study employs a quantitative method and it is supported by interviews and observation. The study respondents involve 9 practicum students of special education who are undergoing teaching practice in Perak also 9 of their teachers-cum-mentors who are involved in the training. The questionnaire built about questions related to their knowledge and mastery about basic teaching skills. Data were analysed through the descriptive analysis using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) using the mean score and standard deviation, whereas interviews were transcribed to answer the study questions. The outcome of the analysis obtained from the practicum students suggests that the practicum students are at high level of knowledge interpretation and mastery with their respective mean values at 3.64 and 3.65. However, it contradicts the questionnaire analysis.....

Effects of the IBE history module on the knowledge of writing history essays and achievement among form six students

The purpose of this study is to develop and evaluate the IBE History Module on the knowledge of writing essays and achievement among Form Six students. The development of this module is based on the Intro-Body Ending (IBE) method and the STPM Historical Coding Section (PTK). IBE is an essay outline site designed in the form of a numerical table that contains an introduction, content and conclusion. Students should write each section of the skeleton in accordance with the specifications required in the STPM History Scoring Section (PTK). The STPM Historical Scoring Section (PTK) is a grading method based on the level of efficiency with clear criteria. Students have been told in advance each step and what they can do. The ADDIE model, which includes the phases of needs analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation is at the heart of this study. The application of solo taxonomy in writing module based on self and peer assessment for primary level in Malaysia: a pilot study

Students need to know their current levels of thinking and how to progress to the next level by self-assess themselves. Otherwise, they would constantly demand teachers to spoon-feed them to achieve a specific level. This is due to the students’ failure to master the lower order thinking skills level that hinder them from making systematic and strategic progress in their learning. The aim of this study was to evaluate a feedback of writing module based on SOLO taxonomy which apply self and peer assessment in their construction of writing development. To test the reliability of the module, a pilot study for the implementation of the module was conducted with the help of the English Language teacher who teach the remedial class in the selected school. The purpose of this pilot study is for ensuring the suitability of the module in terms of time allocation, clarity of instruction, suitability distribution of sub modules and organized activities. Penggunaan permainan digital oleh pelajar praktikum terhadap golongan berkeperluan khas

Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengenalpasti penggunaan permainan digital dalam pembelajaran oleh pelajar praktikum terhadap golongan marginal. Kajian ini menggunakan keadah kuantitatif dan kualitatif yang melibatkan pengedaran soal selidik responden, soal selidik permerhatian,senarai semak,analisis dokumen dan temubual. Sampel kajian melibatkan 11 orang pelajar praktikum sarjana muda pendidikan khas yang menjalani latihan mengajar di negeri Perak dan Selangor serta 9 orang guru pembimbing mereka yang terlibat semasa latihan mengajar. Data soal selidik dianalisis secara analisis deskriptitif melalui (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) SPSS menggunakan min dan sisihan piawai manakala temubual pula ditranskripkan. Hasil analisis data soal selidik yang diedar kepada pelajar praktikum mendapati bahawa tahap interpretasi penguasaan permainan digital yang tinggi dengan nilai min 4.19 dan sisihan piawaian 0.434. Namun berdasarkan analisis soal selidik pemerhatian didapati bahawa pelajar.....

The effect of multimedia technology on deep learning of Chinese characters among primary school students

Although deep learning is a hot topic in the educational field nowadays, the study of how multimedia technology affects students deep learning of Chinese characters is still insufficient. Therefore, a quantitative study administered via a quasi-experiment was conducted, aiming to: analyse the difference in literacy writing achievement between students taught using multimedia technology as compared to those taught with conventional method; and explore whether the multimedia technology promotes deep learning of Chinese characters. A total of 73 primary school students were selected using the random sampling method. 36 pre-and post-test questions identified the difference in Chinese literacy writing achievement between the experimental group (n = 37) and control group (n = 36), while a questionnaire assessed differences in deep learning. The findings show that multimedia technology had no significant impact on the cognitive and intrapersonal domains but was effective in the interpersonal .....
