1 | 2009 thesis | The effect of project-based learning on pre-service teachers' environmental knowledge, attitude and behaviour Mohamad Termizi Borhan The rising interest in environmental literacy and education for sustainability has created expectations that timely, accurate content should be taught to the primary, secondary as well as teacher education curriculum. The learning context should provide opportunities for students to develop critical thinking skill, problem solving and values. Project-based learning approaches that emphasize student learning may be a key to the successful development of good citizenship. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of a project-based learning on students' environmental knowledge, attitudes and behaviour. As part of the course requirements students were asked to develop a web-quest on climate change and to identify suitable topics in the curriculum for the integration of climate change. The topic on climate change was chosen since global climate change is a challenging topic to teach and learn and the teaching is flawed through omission, simplification and misrepresentation. 2 | 2014 article | A review of the impact of PBL on pre-service teachers’ learning Borhan Mohamad Termizi, Inspired by positive results of Problem Based Learning (PBL) implementation within an array of disciplines, PBL was also implemented in teacher education fields since 1980’s. Since then, the literature of PBL implementation and its impact teacher education have been growing. However, there was no review work reported to conclude on how PBL impact specific learning outcomes in teacher education. Hence the aim of the paper was to review the research evidences concerning the impact of PBL implementation focusing on pre-service teachers´ knowledge and skills. Resources (journal articles and paper proceedings) were obtained from bibliographic databases and key research journals. The resources were chosen based on specific inclusion criteria, followed by a common review framework to ensure commonality and comprehensiveness during the review. The review works concluded that a PBL experience within teacher education provided opportunities for pre-service teachers to simultaneously acquire k..... 524 hits |
3 | 2021 article | Application of Fuzzy Delphi Method (FDM) for Supervision Process Construct for First Degree Supervision in Institute of Teacher Education (ITE) Malaysia Mohamad Termizi Borhan Research supervision is an academic activity that are planned and executed to enhance learning and maximize learning experience in the first-degree level of Institute of Teacher Education (ITE) Malaysia. The study aims to identify and rank the elements in Supervision Process construct for The Synergistic PsychoSocial Model (SyPSM) based on expert consensus. The expert consists of 15 experts from all ITEs, and possess variety of expertise in research supervision for first degree level. In addition, the chosen expert equipped with 10 years of experience in their respective fields. The study utilizes Fuzzy Delphi Method (FDM) technique to analyse the data. The findings indicate that all 13 elements in Supervision Practice construct were accepted. These elements were accepted since the threshold (d) value is less than 0.2, the Fuzzy A score is > 0.5 and percentage of expert group consensus is more than 75%. In conclusion, the research has successfully identified elements for supervision pr..... 450 hits |
4 | 2014 thesis | Problem based learning (PBL) for Malaysia teacher education: design, implementation, and evaluation Mohamad Termizi Borhan This research involved developing, implementing and evaluating Problem Based Learning (PBL) designs in the context of Malaysian teacher education. As a relatively new teaching and learning approach in the Malaysian higher education landscape, the student-centered learning such as the PBL has posed challenges since the approach was too different from the demands and constraints of contextual needs, i.e Malaysian teacher education. With regards to this challenge, the proposed PBL designs have been adjusted to suit the Malaysian teacher education. Putting forward the above issues, the researcher has adopted Design Based Research (DBR) as the research methodology due to its principles that strive to make learning research more contextually relevant. In particular, the method addresses the needs and norms of a local context, which has led to research findings that are scientifically trustworthy and useful in practical sense. DBR emphasises synergistic relationship between researching, desig..... 743 hits |
