Muhammad Zaffwan Idris
The competencies of graphic design graduates are always a concern for design educators and industry professionals. However, limited evidence has been offered by past studies on the existence of a set of competency standards for new entrants to graphic design profession. Also, there seems to exist a very few studies on the tool used to measure the graduates’ competency levels that can be found from the literature review. Is graphic design being taken seriously as a profession?
Muhammad Zaffwan Idris
As compared to other professionals such as architects, doctors, engineers, and accountants, graphic designers have relatively lower professional status. Some people argue that this is in large part due to the fact that graphic designers have lighter responsibilities, i.e., they deal only with ‘the making of things and beautiful things’ instead of ‘life and death’ or ‘safety’ issues of their clients. However, many design scholars perceive graphic design as a strategic tool that can bring massive values to global organizations, markets, societies, and economies. In light of this ‘perception gap’, graphic designers must reconsider how they can strengthen or elevate their professional status among the public. Through conducting a comprehensive literature review, this paper aims to investigate and discuss the possible factors that have failed graphic designers to be recognized as professionals. It concludes that the conventional definition of the term ‘graphic design’ ca.....

Muhammad Zaffwan Idris
Driven by big data, the development of new technology and the enhancement of customer experience (CX), the first-store transformed the retail industry. Based on customer-centric approach and driven by S-O-R model, this paper proposed a new framework to amplify the quality of CX. Furthermore, this study is proposing the adaptation from service design tools including personas and customer journey map. Thus, data are collected from the customer visit at first-store by dividing it into three stages: pre-visit, during-visit, and post-visit. Consumer personas are generated according to the market segmentation theory, which was proposed as a part of the framework proposed in this paper. Keywords: Customer Experience, First-Store, Service Design, Persona, Brand Personality..

Mediation of motivated strategies for learning for thinking maps involvement towards metacognitive awareness
Muhammad Zaffwan Idris
This study emphasized the challenges involved in teaching and learning fundamentals of programming as a consequence of the lack of metacognitive awareness, which is associated with problem solving abilities. These abilities can be enhanced through the use of thinking maps, but they are typically used only in school and under the supervision of a teacher. Additionally, the practice is conducted in a typical manner, with no interesting features incorporated into the process, and it does not promote the development of metacognitive awareness. Thus, this study implementing the use of educational tool which embedding motivated strategies for learning theories including multimedia principles and elements called Motivated Strategies Thinking Maps Tool (MoSTMaT) and apply it experimentally in order to determine the tool's effectiveness towards guiding students in using thinking maps to solve fundamental programming problems. A total of 128 students participated in the quasi-experimental resear.....
