Development and evaluation of the LIKES module to promote reading interest among Orang Asli in primary schools

Literacy is still the main problem in primary schools mainly among Orang Asli students. The level of literacy among Orang Asli students are very low. In the present time, there are many reading modules to help teachers in teaching and learning in preschool and primary school levels. However, modules or reading materials for Orang Asli students are scarce and this makes it difficult for teachers in Orang Asli schools to diversify their teaching and learning methods in a class. Therefore, this research aims to create a module that has a validation and high credibility to help increase a student's grasp in reading. ADDIE model was used as a base to create a model. This research involved five phases which is carrying out an analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation phase. A survey was conducted to assess the content validity of the module. Construction of the forest school framework based on Indigenous knowledge in Malaysia

The rate of drop outs among indigenous or Orang Asli pupils in primary school is a worrying issue. They were found to be unable to apply the knowledge acquired through formal education systems in Malaysia due to the different ‚settings‘ of the environment. This failure was due to the lack of understanding on how Orang Asli pupils learn, think, and act. The aim of this study was to construct a Forest School framework for the teaching and learning process in Orang Asli primary schools. The qualitative study design involved in-depth interviews with six experts from the Orang Asli community by using semi-structured questions to explore and clarify related sub-constructs. The results showed five elements that need to be incorporated in the syllabus, namely music, herbs and medicine, handicrafts, tools for hunting and forestry. Involvement of Orang Asli youth in Vocational education and training in Malaysia: aspirations and outcomes

Skilled human capital is highly important in economic development. This career aspiration is to create a skilled workforce in a country. A lack of Orang Asli involvement in vocational fields is worrisome for many parties, especially the government. Thus, this study aims to explore the participation and involvement of Orang Asli youths in Vocational Education and Training (VET). Qualitative research methods were used in this study to provide in-depth knowledge of the involvement of Orang Asli youths in VET. Ten Orang Asli youths from various ethnics groups, aged 17¬–18, were selected as study participants. Data were obtained from semi-structured interviews and document analysis. From the analysed data, themes were pointed out and a triangulation technique was performed to determine the validity. Membina dan menilai modul bacaan LIKES bagi meningkatkan kemahiran membaca murid Orang Asli

Kajian ini bertujuan untuk membina sebuah modul khusus bagi meningkatkan kemahiran membaca murid Orang Asli dan menilai keberkesanan modul. Pembinaan modul adalah berdasarkan kepada model ADDIE melalui lima peringkat.iaitu analisis, reka bentuk, pembangunan, pelaksanaan dan penilaian. Kajian ini menggunakan dua jenis pendekatan kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Pendekatan kuantitatif dengan reka bentuk kuasi eksperimen telah dilaksanakan dalam kajian ini manakala pendekatan kualitatif berlaku melalui temu bual dan senarai semak pemerhatian murid dalam bilik darjah. Kajian ini melibatkan 10 orang murid Orang Asli dari 3 buah sekolah Orang Asli. Setiap sekolah ditetapkan masing-masing lima orang murid dalam kumpulan kawalan dan lima orang murid dalam kumpulan rawatan. Instrumen yang digunakan ialah ujian diagnostik, ujian pra, ujian pasca, senarai semak pemerhatian murid dan borang maklum balas guru. Purpose: This study aim to explore the inspiration of technology in conducting learning process for special education studens in classroom. Framework: It is common knowledge that education today requires teachers to be more creative in delivering learning and teaching in the classroom. Methodology: This study use qualitative approach in gathering the data. 12 teachers were interview in this studies. Findings: The result shows the rapidity of technology is now to some extent helping teachers find fresher ideas to conduct teaching in the classroom. The existence of various types of technology including gadgets, software, video applications and others are seen to be able to attract the interest of students in turn can achieve teaching objectives. However, some studies show that some teachers are less effective in the use of technology when teaching in the classroom.
