The effects of complex training programs on jumping height in novice volleyball players
Rosman Nor Aiwa,
The purpose of this study was to compare the effect of different training program on jumping height. Subjects were selected from students enrolled in the first semester in Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (15 females and 13 males). These subjects were randomly assigned to three training groups. The plyometric group (PT)? weight training group (WT) and complex or ballistic training group (PT). All three groups undertook an 8-weeks training program designed to develop explosive power in the lower extremities. Motor ability that was measured was jumping height using the Kistler Quattro Jump apparatus before and after the training program ended. A oneway ANOVA was used to compare the jumping heights of the subjects. There were no significant differences found in jumping heights among the males for all the training methods practiced for absolute jump height (p> 0.05) and neither there were any significant difference between the female groups...

Effects of adiponectin on markers of endothelial activation and markers of inflammation in human coronary artery endothelial cells
Noor Aiwa Rosman
This study investigates the effect of adiponectin on endothelial activation and inflammatory marker secretion by human coronary artery endothelial cells (HCEAC) in vitro. Methodology: HCAEC at the seventh passage were divided into two groups and incubated for 24 hours at 37° C and 5% CO2 as follows: Control, and adiponectin-treated (30 µg/ml adiponectin) groups. Supernatants were analysed for ICAM-1, E-selectin, PAI-1 and IL-6 and COX-2 using ELISA. RT-PCR was used to analyse gene expression of ICAM-1, E-selectin, PAI-, IL-6, COX-2, NFkBp50 and NFkBp65. Data were analysed using independent t-test.Results: ICAM-1 and E-selectin level was significantly higher in leptin-adiponectin-treated groups (P..

The effects of training modalities on motor abilities in Kelantanese young taekwando athletes
Noor Aiwa Rosman
The purpose of this study was to compare the effect of training on selected motor abilities in young recreational taekwondo athletes using the traditional approach versus one based on sports science principles. Subjects were selected from members of taekwondo clubs in Kota Bharu and surrounding districts (20 girls, 13.01±2.35 years, 147.10±11.41 cm, 44.17±13.84 kg; 28 boys, 11.93±2.01 years, 142.92±13.95 ern, 35.52±12.66 kg). The athletes were randomly assigned to an experimental and control group. The experimental group was given a training program designed for an intervention period of 8 weeks. The control group followed the regular training program by their coaches. Physical fitness components included weight for height, flexibility, body composition, push-ups, sit-ups, vertical jump, and aerobic fitness. Multivariate procedures and non-parametric methods were used to analyze the data. There was no Group x Test interaction (p=0.332, eta2=0.055) and neither were there Group (p=.....
