1 | 2015 thesis | An evaluation of the implementation of contemporary childrens literature programme in Selangor primary schools Siti Salina Mustakim The purpose of' this study is to. evaluate the implementation of Contemporary Children's Literature Programme in Selangor primary schools. The low performance of English language result in Standard Examination since 2009-2012 is deemed crucial towards the performance of students' language proficiency. The study conducted a mixed method design to identify the provision of support, resources, training, time allocation, and the performance of the program. Findings from survey to 234 respondents from 78 schools indicated that majority of respondents were unanimously agreed on the provision of support (67.3%), resources (64.3%), training (64.2%), and time allocation (59.0%). A total number of 18 interviews from, 14 classroom observations, and several document analyses revealed that the performance of the programme were not in-line with the development of the module by the Curriculum Division Department. 2 | 2014 article | Teachers approaches in teaching literature: observations of ESL classroom Mustakim Siti Salina, Mustapha Ramlee, Lebar Othman, This study aimed to identify the approaches employed by teachers in teaching Contemporary Children’s Literature Program to upper primary school. Using classroom observations and interview as research instruments, this paper evaluates the approaches of five ESL teachers teaching Year 5 students and examines the various challenges faced by them in the teaching of literature. Preliminary findings on the approaches revealed that the incorporation of literary elements in the classroom was minimal. Teachers were lacked creativity and fully utilized the modules provided by the Curriculum Development Centre. The Pre, While and Post-Reading was not employed effectively due to the lack of textbook provided by the school. Nevertheless, the program provides great potential for enhancing students’ language learning in the classroom.
