Lets Kahoot! for diverse time and place

Blended learning allows one to approach a complex problem with reason, it creates ample opportunities for learners and educators to communicate at different levels. Learners become motivated and hence productive. A form of blended learning that makes use of gamification is Kahoot! Educators and learners are easily able to comprehend this software as it is similar to that of computer games whereby the focus is on education. The study was carried out brings forth a few positive as well as negative implications of Kahoot! in a classroom. Kahoot! was carried out on a class of 22 first year diploma students and personal interviews were carried out. The major finds were that 100% of the students expressed interest in Kahoot! as a learning tool. The idea of using gamification to teach a theoritical subject was well received by the the students. Enhancing Creativity through Musical Drama for Children with Special Needs (Down Syndrome) in Education of Disabled Children

Children with special needs, especially those with disability in mental, physical or social/emotional interactions, are marginalized. Many people still view them as being troublesome, having learning difficulties, unproductive and burdensome to society. The objectives of the research are; to identify whether musical drama can control the coordination of mental function of children; to identify whether musical drama can improve communication ability and expression of children; to discern whether musical drama can help children work with people around them; to find out if musical dramas can develop a child's emotional and physical health; to find out if musical drama can improve children's creativity. The study employed a qualitative research approach. Data were collected through observation of the selected key informants who were teachers and principals as well as parents and children. The data obtained was then processed (reduced), the conclusion was drawn/verified through presentation.....

The use of teacher role to facilitate teaching and learning of history lessons in primary school

In Malaysian schools, the term role play is fairly popular and is used excessively by teachers to facilitate their teaching and learning. In contrast, ‘teacher in role’ is hardly used by Malaysian teachers although it is an invaluable technique for shaping the dramatic process and developing students’ learning. The research was conducted in SK Brickfields (2), Kuala Lumpur to introduce Teacher in Role. The teacher or facilitator takes on a role in the drama and plays along with the pupils. The teacher has to choose a piece of costume or a prop to signify that they are in the role. As soon as the teacher puts on the costume or picks up the prop, he/she becomes the chosen character and manages the learning opportunities from within the drama. In tandem with Education 4.0, it is a holistic teaching method designed to assimilate critical thinking, scrutiny of emotion and moral values and to expand the learning experience and make it more relevant to everyday life situations.....

Increasing the fervour to learn amongst pre-schoolers via children’s theatre

Children’s Theatre or Theatre For Young Audience can involve children in actual productions, plays and musicals aimed explicitly for children, or a mixture of both. The study aims to look at the combination of children’s theatre and creative movement that results in boosting pre-school children’s self -confidence and its ability to aid in their holistic development. The study was conducted in a nursery to expose theatre as a medium to express feelings, emotions and behaviors amongst children. Theatre as a medium of learning is also expected to be a place for children to showcase existing talent and help the child to boost their self- confidence. This study focused on a qualitative methodology applying Bloom's Taxonomy of the cognitive domain approach that involves knowledge, understanding and application. The application of ‘role play’ in teaching stem subjects

The purpose of this paper is to examine the problems faced by students of the Science Stream focusing on one of the subjects in STEM, Biology. This study was implemented during “Program Perintis Guru 2” on January 2019 to February 2019. The study was carried out a total of 16 students of 4 Enggang 1, SMK Padang Enggang and a teacher was involved in this study. Initial reviews were conducted through verbal quizzes on teaching and learning sessions as well as subject teacher interviews. The results show that students faced difficulties in understanding and remembering topics because they were unable to imagine the shape or process of a cell. The students were exposed to theatre games during an hour of teaching and learning sessions and the study was conducted for 4 weeks. The results indicated that the application of ‘role play’ in teaching stem subjects through verbal quizzes at the end of teaching and learning sessions and before the next teaching and learning sessions, showed .....
