1 | 2001 conference_item | Calling all language teachers : prospect and promise in integrating a computer based instruction in the class Wan Mustapha Wan Zumusni, Globalization, rapid economic growth and industrialisastion have an immediate impact on educators and education in Malaysia. As a leading technological device, computers have paved their ways to Malaysian classrooms as an instructional tool or a means to self-access knowledge for both teachers and students. This implies that language classes in Malaysia has progressed not only beyond chalk and talk, but to much more sophisticated teaching tools ranging form over head projectors, videos and slides. As Malaysia is gearing towards producing competent teachers to fulfil the increasing demand of high quality educationists who are capable of utilising the state-of-art materials to deliver lessons effectively, the debates on economic and cultural issues on adopting Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) still prevail among doubtful teachers.
