Sensitivity optimisation of hybrid calixarene-reduced graphene oxide langmuir-blodgett thin films via langmuir, optical, structural and elektrical characterisations
Lim, Darwina Choo Kheng
The  study  aimed  to  investigate  the  characteristics  of  calixarene,  reduced  graphene oxide  (rGO) and their composite in order to optimise the sensitivity of the composite. The   calixarenes    (calix[4]arene,   calix[6]arene   and   calix[8]arene)   and   rGO   were prepared  in  solution   to  form  a  Langmuir  film  by  using  Langmuir-Blodgett  (LB) trough. The values of 30 mN/m and  15 mN/m were selected for calixarenes and rGO respectively  for  the  thin  film  deposition.  The   surface  potential  (?V)  and  effective dipole  moment  (µ?)  of  calixarenes  were  also   investigated.  The  optical  properties  of calixarene   in   solution   and   thin   film   were    studied   using   UV-Visible   (UV-Vis) spectroscopy  and  compared  to  ensure  the  stability  of   the  thin  film.  Meanwhile,  the rGO thin film was characterised with UV-Vis spectroscopy for t.....

Development and the effect of mobile enthalpy game application on matriculation students achievement in thermochemical equation
Choo, Sze Yee
The purpose of this study is to develop a mobile enthalpy game application (MEGA) and study its effect on matriculation students’ achievement in writing thermochemical equations.   MEGA  is  an  Android  game  application  developed  for student  to  acquire skills to write  thermochemical equations. It is developed based on ADDIE’s, Kwon’s and the game-based learning  engineering models. MEGA was validated in terms of content,  pedagogy  and  multimedia  by  using   Cohen’s  kappa  agreement  coefficient. Reliability of MEGA is determined by using the reliability  coefficient. This quantitative study  employed  time-series  quasi  experimental  design  involving   36  students  in  the control group (PowerPoint slides) and 36 students in the experimental group  (MEGA). Samples are chosen by using a simple random sampling technique. The effect of MEGA versus   PowerPoint  slides  on  student  achievement  of  thermochemical .....

Assessing financial and macroeconomic factors influencing the Islamic Real Estate Investment Trusts stock return in Malaysia
Choo, William Keng Soon
The Islamic Real Estate Investment Trust (i-REIT) serves as an alternative Islamic investment instrument to sukuk and shariah compliant stock, which observes i-REIT experiencing a significant growth and demand in portfolio property value and Islamic market capitalization. The attractiveness of i-REIT has made it to become one of the common real estate investments apart from the physical property investment with a long-term and cheaper capital for property ownership. Likewise, the continual expansion of the i-REIT market in Malaysia is making great financial motivation that expands the investment spectrum. Therefore, the need to study the driving financial and macroeconomic interaction force with i-REIT stock return, which in turn further contributes to the Islamic finance literature. This study was confined to nine study variables and two latent which the financial and macroeconomic factors. The financial factors comprise the long-term bond yield, systematic risk, stock mark.....

Factors Influencing Malaysian Preschool Teachers’ Use of the English Language as a Medium of Instruction
Pauline Swee Choo Goh
This study investigated Malaysian preschool teachers’ self-efficacy and attitudes toward the use of the English language as a medium of instruction (EMI) and proposed a model of how different variables were related to their use of English in the classrooms. In order to obtain a broad picture of the nature and scope of preschool teachers’ use of EMI, a survey study was undertaken. The research instrument was a questionnaire that was distributed to randomly-selected preschool teachers throughout Malaysia. The process of modeling was based on the empirical data and a theoretical model that was constructed on the basis of the two theoretical aspects, that is self-efficacy and attitudes-behavior relation. The theoretical model served as a bridge between the abstractions from theory and the development of the model. The model suggested that strong self-efficacy influenced preschool teachers’ use of English to teach. In addition, the model also indicated that those preschool teachers wi.....

E-readiness measurement tool: scale development and validation in a Malaysian higher educational context
Goh, Pauline Swee Choo
Increasing complexity towards harnessing the power of ICT on all levels has created uncertainty about higher educational technological capabilities and adequate strategies to develop e-readiness. In this study, an empirically grounded higher education e-readiness questionnaire in the domain of higher education was developed and validated. Exploratory factor analysis (n =120) followed by confirmatory factor analysis (n =336) was done which was presented in two forms; covariance model and the structural model. The covariance model showed that the 5 indicators (?Innovativeness?, ?Infrastructure?, ?Collaboration?, ?Learning flexibility?, ?Student experience?) and assigned 24 items were important e-readiness dimensions from the learners? point of view. The structural models validated the previously extracted factors along with their indicators. As a practical tool, the e-readiness tool could assist institutions towards identifying issues that contribute towards e-readiness thereby for.....

THE CO-INTEGRATION AND CAUSALITY EFFECT BETWEEN GLOBAL COVID-19 PANDEMIC AND THE STOCK MARKET RETURN IN MALAYSIA: AN EXPLORATORY SEQUENTIAL MIXED METHODS APPROACH
William Choo Keng Soon
The COVID-19 pandemic is one of the most unparalleled disasters the world has ever seen. Previously, the global community has faced the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS), Ebola Virus Disease (EVD), and Severe Acute Respiratory (SARS). However, the tremendous rate of infection created by the global COVID-19 pandemic is unmatchable with its rapid spread all over the world. Therefore, it is considered as a Black Swan event as created previously by the 2008 financial crisis, SARS, and 9/11 terrorist attack. All these events have triggered panic selling that affected the confidence of investors and businesses. Subsequently, stock market performance has affected the choice of investment decisions that translated into stock return. Therefore, this paper was undertaken to investigate the co-integration and causality relationship among global COVID-19 daily infected cases, COVID-19 recoveries rate, COVID-19 death rate, investor sentiment, government policy, foreign exchange rate, Malaysia.....
