1 | 2021 article | Uncovering prospective role and applications of existing and new nutraceuticals from bacterial, fungal, algal and cyanobacterial, and plant sources Jameel Rabee Jameel Al-Obaidi Nutraceuticals are a category of products more often associated with food but having pharmaceuticals property and characteristics. However, there is still no internationally accepted concept of these food?pharmaceutical properties, and their interpretation can differ from country to country. Nutraceuticals are used as part of dietary supplements in most countries. They can be phy-tochemicals which are biologically active and have health benefits. These can be supplied as a sup-plement and/or as a functional food to the customer. For human health and longevity, these materials are likely to play a vital role. Consumption of these items is typical without a therapeutic pre-scription and/or supervision by the vast majority of the public. The development of nutraceuticals can be achieved through many bioresources and organisms. This review article will discuss the current research on nutraceuticals from different biological sources and their potential use as an agent for improving human he..... 969 hits |

3 | 2023 article | Cross-reactivity analysis of milk proteins from different goat breeds with cow's milk allergens using a proteomic approach Jameel Rabee Jameel Al-Obaidi Introduction: Goat's milk thought to be a good substitute for cow's milk protein allergic (CMPA) individuals. However, there is growing evidence that their proteins have cross-reactivities with cow's milk allergens. This study aimed to profile and compare milk proteins from different goat breeds that have cross-reactivity to cow's milk allergens. Methodology: Proteomics was used to compare protein extracts of skim milk from Saanen, Jamnapari, and Toggenburg. Cow's milk was used as a control. IgE-immunoblotting and mass spectrometry were used to compare and identify proteins that cross-reacted with serum IgE from CMPA patients (n = 10). Results: The analysis of IgE-reactive proteins revealed that the protein spots identified with high confidence were proteins homologous to common cow's milk allergens such as ?-S1-casein (?S1-CN), ?-casein (?-CN), ?-casein (?-CN), and beta-lactoglobulin (?-LG). Jamnapari's milk proteins were found to cross-react with four major milk allergens: ?-S1-CN, ?..... 59 hits |
4 | 2023 article | Rigidoporus microporus and the white root rot disease of rubber Jameel Rabee Jameel Al-Obaidi Rigidoporus microporus is an economically important plant pathogenic fungus causing particularly severe losses to the rubber industry worldwide. The pathogen is responsible for white root rot (WRR) disease, infecting the host roots via white fibrous mycelia, causing vascular disfunction, and visible symptoms including leaf discolouration and dieback in severely infected trees. The final stage of the disease is characterized by the appearance of basidiocarps at the tree collar. The development of WRR in rubber plantations is dependent on fungal diversity in the soil, pH, temperature, and cation levels. Several -omics approaches have been undertaken to understand how R.microporus functions with the objective, ultimately, to control WRR. Unfortunately, no resistant rubber clone has been identified to date. The disease is managed through physical and chemical methods that are laborious and negatively impact the environment, respectively. Recent developments in research on R.microporus shed..... 62 hits |
