1 | 2014 thesis | A study of new word-formation of Tamil language in Malaysia Muniisvaran Kumar This thesis furnishes a clear idea on the current scenario of word-formation in Tamil, particularly in the Malaysian context. A total of 496 words have been collected as data for this study from the nationwide published Malaysian Tamil newspaper; 'Malaysia Nanban'. This study by and large answered technical questions: word-formation processes, genres and classes of words and identifying linguistic and grammatical weakness and conflicts. Field study has been conducted to answer social questions such as: attitudes of language users, their expectation and suggestions for better word-formation in Tamil. It was found that the language users were not very satisfied with the current progress of word-formation in Tamil. The result obtained from the questionnaire demonstrates that the language users are supportive of language development, particularly in word-formation. Kajian ini dapat menjawab persoalan tentang struktur bahasa yang digunakan untuk menghasilkan haiku yang sempurna. Struktur yang dikaji merangkumi empat aspek utama iaitu bentuk haiku, penggunaan kata, suku kata, dan jenis yang digunakan oleh penyair. Kajian ini dijalankan menggunakan mod kualitatif dan dihurai secara deskriptif. Maklumat dan data diperolehi dengan kaedah kajian kepustakaan dibuat dengan mencari bahan-bahan rujukan di Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka, internet, serta perpustakaan beberapa institut pengajian tinggi awam. The study gives in-depth findings on two research objectives. The objectives are, to identify the conflicts and problems in newly formed words in Tamil language found in Malaysia newspaper and to provide solutions for the problematic newly formed words in Tamil language. Data for this study were collected from Malaysia Nanban newspaper, a popular daily Tamil newspaper in Malaysia. The study used qualitative method of research and also classified as descriptive study.
