The study was carried out under the theme of Improving Reading Competence Through Active Reading Approaches. The purpose of this study is to investigate effective strategies used by teachers to improve students' reading ability and to find effective reading strategies that students can easily understand. This study has been conducted qualitatively. An interview was conducted with the teacher about the approaches used by Tamil teachers to improve reading skills through effective reading approaches among students and the top 3 approaches were discussed. The approaches which are easiest for them are chosen by the students. Reading this study suggest that active reading approaches can improve students' reading skills
