Curiosity, defined as the ‘desire to learn more about something or someone’ (Merriam Webster Online) has always been positively linked with the positive drive in attaining knowledge. However in school, the importance of curiosity is hardly addressed. Even children, who are always curious, risk slowly losing their sense of curiosity as they enter preschool (Parvanno, 1990) because of the formal education that they receive in school. Therefore, this study aimed to explore and examine implementing Project Based Approach as a valuable pedagogy in stimulating children’s curiosity within Brunei’s preschool context. This research aimed at addressing the benefits and the difficulties not only in understanding the concepts of Curiosity and Project Based Approach, but also during the implementation of the pedagogy within Brunei’s preschool context. The study was conducted using a qualitative action research approach. Data was collected from the field notes taken from Observation, Brief Interviews and also from the Researchers’ reflection notes. Results from the inductive content analysis revealed that Project Based Approach could provide a lot of benefits. In addition to stimulating children’s curiosity, it has also helped in improving children’s peer collaboration and improving children’s confidence. Finally, this study has also shed some light on the difficulty of translating Project Based Approach into Brunei’s preschool context and how it has managed to overcome this issue. |
