Today's children's short stories have sparked the dissatisfaction of the Malaysian Prime Literary Prize Evaluation Panel (HSPM) due to the decline in the quality of children's short stories. In this regard, the works whose characters consist of adults continue to be enjoyed by children until they eventually complicate the definition of Childrens Literature. In addition, there are also some individuals who think that these children's short stories are written through the eyes of adult writers and do not meet the concept of children's literature and children's psychology. Therefore, the objective of this study is to identify children's characters who communicate effectively in selected children's short stories and analyze the manners of communication between those characters expressed by the author based on six (6) communication methods in Surah Luqman. The research methodology used is a qualitative method which is a text analysis method. There are 5 selected antology of children's short stories that are used in this study, which are groups of children's short stories from 2012 to 2015. The findings of the study found that the selected children's short stories that were studied comply with the six (6) manners of communicating in Surah Luqman, which are using methods i) calling and greeting, ii) symbolism, iii) repetition, iv) explanation, v) attention, vi) idol selection. This means that through civilized communication, all children's affairs can be passed easily and find success. This is what is tried to be proven in Malay children's literary works, especially short stories as one of the literary works that not only teaches but also entertains the audience. Finally, it is time that the child reading material in Malaysia being replaced by the heritage treasures inherited from generations rather than relying on Western folklore which is far deviating the audience from adab and desired values. 2023, Penerbit Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.
