Title :An Assessment in Mathematics Education : Different Modes Of Assessing Learner Teachers
Year of Publication :2012

Abstract :
There has been a vigorous debate for many years on how assessment can affect students‘ performances. Even if differences have an impact on pupils‘ academic progress this still leaves unanswered important questions about what mediates the effect. This study is conducted to inform the student‘s attainment in different modes of assessing and the relationship between genders in the three modes of assessment. The students‘ preference in assessment was also explored. The quantitative study is based on an analysis of 39 students who are doing their degree programme in collaboration with Canterbury Christ Church University. The methods used were questionnaires and interviews. The results showed the performance of students was average. Only oral presentation showed the girls‘ preferences more than the other modes. In addition, as educators we can use these different modes of assessment to evaluate the students‘ performance in mathematics.
