Abstract: Dictionary is used to know the meaning of words. In earlier times ‘Nigandu’ s were used for this. The present-day dictionaries are of great use to language learners and Tamil enthusiasts. Dictionaries are also very useful for vocabulary building. Dictionaries have been instrumental in the development of language. A language's lexicon is of prime importance for its growth, development and sustainability. Thus, this article explains about the contribution of dictionaries to the development of Tamil language.
