Abstract : Perpustakaan Tuanku Bainun |
The COVID-19 pandemic has forced teachers to adopt a new teaching method necessary for online learning, requiring them to use various digital technologies and platforms to ensure the continuity of the educational process without interruption. However, this transformation has created various challenges that require teachers to rethink how to motivate learners, foster autonomy, and encourage social interaction, especially for young learners during online learning, and the ways of using digital technologies and platforms to deliver their teaching. Therefore, the current study aimed to examine the impact of the online learning environment using digital technologies to improve young learners_ autonomy and increase motivation social interaction among early childhood learners in Oman. In this study, qualitative phenomenology approach was used. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews with 24 participants including teachers and supervisors. Thematic analysis as the primary method using MAXQD was used to delve into the data. Key findings suggested that teachers motivate young learners by using appropriate and secure digital tools and platforms. This helps to engage and protect children and their families' privacy and create a fun and enjoyable interactive learning environment. Moreover, enhancing interpersonal communication, teamwork among students, public speaking dialogue if it occurs in small group of students in classroom with students are effective strategies for improving social interaction during online learning. The findings also highlight the importance of self-learning and taking responsibility, appreciating, and respecting learners' efforts, building the digital mindset, and providing guidelines for preparing autonomous learners for the future. The study recommended the need to use and design digital technology and platform specifically tailored for young learners. It also emphasized the importance of diversifying and selecting engaging activities, along with appropriate strategies, for implementing online learning. Furthermore, the study suggested promoting self-directed learning and fostering a digital mindset among both learners and parents. Ultimately, the study proposed a future framework for integrating online learning into early childhood education. |
