Abstract : Perpustakaan Tuanku Bainun
Many_ school_ students_ are_ victims_ of_ disasters,_ particularly_ the_ eruption_ of Mount_ Merapi. The vulnerability of students in facing disasters is further exacerbated by the_ amount_ of_ time_ they_ spend_ at_ school._ Therefore,_ this_ research_ aims_ to_ identify_ sustainability indicators for school adaptation to volcanic eruption disasters, evaluate_ the_ current_ level_ of_ school_ adaptation_ in_ coping_ with_ volcanic_ eruption_ disasters,_ examine the most significant sustainability indicators for school adaptation to volcanic_ eruption disasters and propose a sustainability strategy for school adaptation to volcanic_ eruption disasters. An explanatory sequential mixed-method approach was used as the_ methodology_ for_ this_ research. The_ study_ involved_ 364_ student_ respondents_ and_ 53_ teacher respondents for the quantitative process and 54 informants for the qualitative_ process. These respondents and informants were from three disaster-prone areas around_ Mount Merapi. Data were collected using questionnaires,_ interviews, documentation_ and observation, with regression analysis and the Relative Importance Index (RII) used_ for quantitative analysis and thematic cross-case analysis for qualitative analysis. The_ research_ results_ show_ that_ the_ strategy_ was_ divided_ into_ five_ dimensions_ (social,_ economic,_ environmental,_ cultural_ and_ organizational)_ with_ 23_ indicators_ and_ 46_ strategies for achieving sustainable adaptation in dealing with eruption disasters. The_ level_ of_ school_ adaptation_ to_ disasters_ was_ relatively_ high_ (index_ 3.98),_ but_ psychological_ adaptation_ needs_ improvement._ Overall,_ the_ most_ significant_ sustainability_ indicator_ in_ disaster_ adaptation_ was_ building_ design._ The_ indicators_ analyzed were validated by academics and disaster experts, resulting in 19 indicators_ and 41 validated strategies. The findings of this study can certainly provide valuable_ guidance in the process of developing disaster-safe schools in the future._
