Abstract : Perpustakaan Tuanku Bainun
The current study has set out to ascertain reading problems faced by students and its budding factors. The factors in this case were quite influential in determining that there is a gap in the reading skills of form 2 students and that the KWLH approach has to be put into use. This study has aimed to identify reading difficulties among students along with their emerging causes. The effective 3 understanding of these factors helped to identify that there is a necessity of implementing the KWLH approach to improve the reading abilities among form 2 students. The research addresses prevalent reading challenges faced by students, such as difficulties in understanding context, decoding unfamiliar vocabulary, and connecting prior knowledge with new information. A mixed-methods approach was adopted, combining qualitative and quantitative data collection tools, including pre- and postassessments, interviews, and surveys. The study outlines that improvement of students' reading and level of motivation for reading can be achieved through the KWLH approach. It also fostered critical thinking and retention of information. The study points out that several issues facing students when learning to read can be solved through the use of KWLH strategies; this is especially useful in contexts for learning a new language. This research offers practical implications for teachers to implement similar strategies for improved learning outcomes.
