| Abstract : Perpustakaan Tuanku Bainun |
| The objective of this study was to model the contribution of understanding the Nature_ of_ Physics_ (NOP),_ Pedagogical_ Content_ Knowledge_ (PCK),_ and_ Achievement_ Motivation (Am) toward Students_ Preferences for Physics (SPP) among teachers in Oman. The study also aimed to investigate whether Am has a mediating effect between_ the independent variables, which were gender, specialization and teaching experience._ The_ sample_ comprised_ 523_ teachers_ selected_ using_ a_ stratified_ random_ sampling_ technique from all governorates of Oman. Data were collected through a quantitative_ method_ utilizing_ a_ questionnaire_ and_ analyzed_ using_ Structural_ Equation_ Modeling_ (SEM-AMOS)_ software._ The_ findings_ indicated_ significant_ positive_ relationships_ among NOP, PCK, Am, and SPP. The results demonstrated that both NOP and PCK_ significantly influenced SPP among teachers. Furthermore, Am was found to mediate_ the_ relationships_ of NOP, PCK,_ and SPP. Gender_ and_ specialization_ of_ respondents_ significantly_ moderated_ the_ relationship_ between_ NOP_ and_ SPP,_ while_ teaching_ experience_ did_ not_ have_ a_ significant_ moderating_ effect_ in_ this_ model._ Conversely,_ teaching experience significantly moderated the_ relationship between PCK and SPP,_ whereas gender and specialization vice versa. In conclusion, NOP, PCK, Am and SPP_ were_ represented_ as_ the_ NPCKSP_ Model_ (Nature_ of_ Physics,_ Pedagogical_ Content_ Knowledge, and Achievement Motivation towards Student_s Preferences for Physics). This study implies that the NPCKSP Model can be used to assess the quality of NOP,_ PCK, and Am in relation to SPP among teachers, particularly in Oman.__ |
