| Abstract : Perpustakaan Tuanku Bainun |
| The purpose of this study is twofold. First, it explores the influence of Chinese translations of foreign picture books on the development of Chinese children's picture books. Second, it compares the characteristics of these two types of picture books. The present study employs the qualitative research approach, and 129 samples of Chinese and foreign picture books that were written in Europe, America, and Japan were selected for comparative analysis. The study shows that the introduction of foreign picture books in China has promoted the creation and development of Chinese native picture books. Chinese original picture books are now rich in themes and content. They are relatively subtle in artistic expression and focus on conveying inner emotions and meanings. However, there is still a need to expand their ideas in terms of innovation, imagination, and children's enjoyment. Chinese picture books, while telling Chinese stories well, need to learn from foreign graphic narrative techniques to enhance the diversity of content and richness of expression in Chinese original picture books. This study provides new insights into the development of Chinese original picture books and complements the existing research on Chinese picture books. |
