Abstract : Perpustakaan Tuanku Bainun
The aim of the study is twofold. First it investigates the impact of different test response formats on the reading comprehension performance of Chinese EFL learners. Second, it explores how their reading comprehension performance can be improved by employing some test taking strategies. The study employed the mixed-methods research approach. The sample consisted of 170 sophomores from Panzhihua University, majoring in non-English fields and whose first language is Chinese. Both students and teachers were selected using a purposive sampling technique. Eight teachers participated in the interviews. The research instruments comprised three types of test papers with varying formats, questionnaire, and semi-structured interview protocol. Quantitative data were analyzed by SPSS 26.0, involving descriptive statistics, T-tests and two-way ANOVA. Qualitative data from interviews were transcribed and analyzed thematically using NVivo software.
