The aim of this study is to examine the ancient poetry auxiliary learning systems used in six Chinese textbooks: "Bahasa Cina Kelas Peralihan" (2019) and "Bahasa Cina" for Secondary 1 to 5 (2016-2020). This study employed a mixed-method approach, using literature and statistical analysis to analyze the selection, arrangement, and content and features of the ancient poetry auxiliary learning systems. This study explored the current status of the ancient poetry auxiliary learning systems using 110 student questionnaires, 44 teacher questionnaires, and three teacher interviews. The study found that the selection of ancient poetry focuses on Tang and Song poetry, adopts a unitized format, and features a progressively progressive level of difficulty, emphasizing students' reading ability and cultural literacy. Bahasa Cina (KSSM) ancient poetry auxiliary learning systems, comprised of annotations, prompts and comments, charts, resources, and exercises, is generally able to meet students' learning requirements. It offers advantages such as creating learning situations based on real-life context, conveying cultural values while addressing learning difficulties, combining humanistic and instrumental elements, and supporting independent reading. However, it suffers from weak reading expectations and uneven transitions between learning stages. While teachers and students generally agree on the system's usefulness, it remains deficient in content coverage, use of illustrations, and independent student use. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the writing of textbook-assisted learning systems needs to adapt to the usage habits of teachers and students.The implication of the study is it promotes the development of auxiliary learning systems for Chinese textbooks and it provides references for the writing of local Chinese textbooks in countries around the world.
