The issue pertaining to capital structure has been discussed in numerous studies yet the inconclusive has been produced. This study is done in order to contribute in comprehending the impact of debt on performance. Multiple measures of performance have been adopted namely accounting measure and market measure which is consistent with previous studies recommendation pertaining to estimation of performance. Several independent variables have been selected as control variables in order better understanding with regard to relationship between debt and performance. Panel data analysis for a sample of 44 Malaysian firms from various industries has been chosen for the period 1994 to 2007. Contrary to previous evidence where debt is found to be either negatively or positively related to performance, the study yields result that show debt is insignificant with performance. |
