Abstract : Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris |
The purpose of this research was to study the implementation of PEKA in teaching of water pollution topic, for the subject of Biology for Form Four. Sixty students of Sekolah Menengah Sains Pokok Sena, Kedah were selected as samples in this research. Students were divided into two groups, thirty students were placed in experimental group which was involved in PEKA implementation (constructivism and 5E Learning Cycle module), while another thirty students were placed in control group which was involved in constructivism study only. Pre test, post test, questionnaire and interview were applied in this research. Data obtained in this research have been tested by using inferential statistics, t-test to differentiate students’ achievement between the two groups, experimental group and control group. Mean score for students’ interest in Biology and students’ attitude towards Biology laboratory works was also differentiated through t-test. ANOVA test was used to compare the aspects in science process skills. Descriptive statistics were used to obtain the frequency percentage of students from experimental group on the perceptions about Biology PEKA and teachers’ perception about Biology PEKA implementation. Interview was done to support findings from inferential statistics which is students’ attitude towards Biology laboratory works and descriptive statistics which are students’ perceptions about Biology PEKA and teachers’ perceptions about Biology PEKA implementation. The findings of the study showed the significant differences for students’ achievement between experimental group and control group. Where as, mean score for students’ interest in Biology and students’ attitude towards Biology laboratory works was not statistically significance for both groups. The analysis for descriptive statistics shows that students interested when they manage to score high marks for PEKA hence can increase their achievement in Biology, interested and their attitude in Biology laboratory works. This finding was supported by interview that show student more interested in learning by using this learning approach. |
