Title :Students' expectation in physics through self-study using book modules and multimedia module

Abstract :
In this article, investigations were done on the students’ expectations in Physics through self-study. The self-study methods used in this research were self-study using book modules and multimedia modules. This is because epistemology has often been the hidden curriculum as compared to the content (conception) in curriculum. Moreover,so on the expectations in the field of Physics. Recent studies have encouraged further dwelling into the hidden curriculum such as the field of Physics. In this paper, the research used pre-test and post-test experimental design. A total of 387 respondents from three secondary schools were involved. The Maryland Physics Expectations Survey was used to evaluate the respondents’ expectations in Physics. Furthermore, this research evaluates students’ expectations in Physics after they self-studied through book modules and multimedia module with minimum guidance from teachers. Data obtained were then analyzed using the percentage of favourable/unfavourable responses and inferential statistical analysis test. Results show that there is no significant difference between respondents who did self-study by using book modules and respondents who did self-study by using a multimedia module. This further indicates that Physics educators should not only stress on the content in curriculum but place more effort in guiding students on the expectations in the subject of Physics through six dimensions that are independent, coherent, concept, Mathematical links, reality links and effort.
