Abstract : Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris
This study aims to examine values relating to the beauty and benefits of Malay pantuns and proverbs based on the sphere of beauty and the sphere of benefits. This qualitative study was based on Braginsky’s approach involving the sphere of beauty and the sphere of benefits. In addition, the library study method was used to collect secondary data and descriptive analysis was used to analyze such data. The analysis revealed that Malay pantuns and proverbs were filled with noble values that could explain the state of the Malay mind. In particular, eloquently crafted Malay pantuns and proverbs could highlight the pre-eminence of Malay thinking of the traditional Malay societies of past generations that had strong identity. The findings of this study can serve as guidelines for other researchers, literary scholars, and students to embark on similar research.Based on the nobles values of Malay pantuns and proverbs, which highlight their beauty and benefits, such traditional literary arts can be reliably referred to in examining the Malay mind of past and present generations.
