For the past twenty years, environmental issues and crisis are being intensely stated and they are often linked with the economic and sectoral development, which occur in a country or region. To ensure that the primary development flow reaches the overall society, the government is undertaking the approach of creating new areas/corridors of development mainly towards the south and north of the Klang Valley. With regard to this, Bernam Valley becomes the central focus due to its strategic location between Kuala Lumpur-Ipoh-Port Klang and also its capability of providing the suitable climate for development and investment. On top of that, a variety of development projects have been planned and have taken place in Bernarn Valley such as the Bernam Industrial Park, Behrang 2020 and Proton City. Bernam Valley is unique in its location as it involves the interests of two states that is between Selangor and Perak, located at the foot of Titiwangsa Range, has many drainage systems which supports the main river namely Bernarn River, a micro climate which is relatively cool, an environment which is still comfortable, a relatively low environment depletion problems, population growth at a low level and a society which still upholds the traditional values. Therefore, the unique ecosystem of Bernam Vailey needs to be explored on its very own mould. Every form of development that has been planned needs to be monitored to ensure the most minimum scale of environmental impacts and thus curbing them. This early study will disclose the aspects of development and current environment status of areas in Bernam Valley especially Tanjong Malim and Behrang 2020 (focus of phase one). |
