Abstract : Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris |
Kajian kes kualitatif ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan nilai-nilai estetika ukiran
klirieng, salong dan lijeng dalam konteks institusi sosial Orang Ulu di Daerah Belaga
dan Baram, Sarawak. Kajian ini dilakukan berdasarkan senario semasa dan
permasalahan dalam konteks institusi sosial dalam menangani cabaran melestarikan
estetika ukiran klirieng, salong dan lijeng mendepani arus globalisasi. Kutipan data
kajian ini dilakukan di Rumah Panjang Punan Bah, di Rumah Panjang Tinjar, di
Muzium Negeri Sarawak dan di Muzium Negara Kuala Lumpur. Sumber data utama
diperoleh melalui temu bual terhadap sembilan orang informan dalam kalangan Orang
Ulu yang berasal dari Belaga yang berumur antara 50 dan 90 tahun. Maklumat data
lain diperoleh melalui kaedah pemerhatian, fotografi dan analisis dokumen. Kajian
estetika ukiran klirieng, salong dan lijeng ini dilakukan berlandaskan prinsip-prinsip
estetika oleh Zakaria Ali (1989) dan ciri-ciri institusi sosial yang telah dikemukakan
oleh Hobbs dan Blank (1978). Dapatan kajian ini menunjukkan kepelbagaian motif
yang mempunyai nilai estetika yang tinggi, menggambarkan prinsip perlambangan,
bersatu, berguna, bermakna, berlawan dan prinsip halus yang diadaptasi daripada
unsur alam di Sarawak. Nilai estetika motif ukiran ini juga lebih menyerlah dengan
terdapatnya simbol, ideologi dan kod tingkah laku yang berkait dengan institusi sosial
masyarakat Orang Ulu. Implikasinya penekanan kepada pengembangan teori,
kepentingan praktis dan pelestarian motif-motif ukiran klirieng, salong dan lijeng
wajar dipelihara dan dilestarikan. |
