Abstract : Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris
Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengenalpasti dan menganalisis kesinambungan dan perubahan tradisi muzik kumpulan gambus Nurulhilal di Johor. Reka bentuk penyelidikan kualitatif menggunakan kaedah perpustakaan dan temubual untuk menjawab tiga persoalan kajian. Kumpulan  gambus Nurulhilal dipilih kerana kemunculannya telah membawa tradisi muzik kumpulan gambus di Johor bermula dari tahun  1975  hingga  tahun  1999.  Data  kajian  dianalisis  menggunakan  konsep etnomuzikologi oleh Nettl dan Hood dengan pendekatan ‘norma gaya muzik’ yang merangkumi tradisi persembahan, gaya, genre lagu, penggiat, ensembel, sistem tonal dan bentuk muzik. Data kajian menunjukkan kewujudan kumpulan gambus dan kewujudan industri pembuatan gambus di Johor bermula tahun 1960. Kajian mengenai kesinambungan tradisi muzik kumpulan gambus Nurulhilal telah menemukan empat norma gaya muzik iaitu, tradisi persembahan kumpulan gambus, genre lagu dan lirik, peralatan muzik dan gaya permainan gambus, serta sistem tonal. Kajian mengenai perubahan tradisi muzik kumpulan gambus Nurulhilal juga menemui empat perkara iaitu persembahan gabungan kumpulan gambus dan Samrah, genre lagu, peralatan muzik, dan pengaruh muzik dari luar. Kesimpulannya, data dari kajian ini menunjukkan bahawa kumpulan gambus Nurulhilal telah mengekalkan norma gaya muzik asal kumpulan gambus dari tahun 1975 hingga tahun 1980. Norma gaya muzik kumpulan gambus Nurulhilal berubah dari segi genre lagu dan rentak setelah bergabung dengan gambus Samrah Al Hana dari tahun 1980 hingga tahun 1985. Seterusnya norma gaya muzik kumpulan gambus Nurulhilal telah berubah dari segi genre lagu, rentak, peralatan muzik dan sistem tonal kerana pengaruh muzik dari luar sehingga tahun 1999. Implikasi daripada kajian ini boleh dijadikan asas untuk mengenalpasti identiti sesebuah kumpulan gambus di samping dapat digunakan sebagai panduan kepada pengkaji seterusnya yang ingin mengkaji seni muzik kumpulan gambus dari sudut yang berbeza.
