Abstract : Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris
This  research  aimed  to  compare  and  contrast  the  principle  of  justice  present  in Periyapuraanam text and Malaysian Judiciary System. This is a qualitative research, in which  hermeneutic approach was conducted towards the Periyapuraanam text and the Malaysian judiciary  documents. The texts analysis were presented based on the themes and discussed concerning the  similarities and differences between the Periyaapuranam text  and  the  Malaysian  judiciary   system.  The  events  in  relation  to  the  justice  were observed  through  the  history  of  10   Nayanmaar  and  one  Sivanadiyar.  The  findings indicated that there were many similarities and a  few differences of the justice principle between Periyapuraanam text and the Malaysian principle of  justice. The events were classified  into  9  criminal  cases  and  2  civil  cases.  Components   such  as  judiciary knowledge,   vast   experience   in   judiciary,   trials   before    sentencing,   methods   of summoning by the plaintiff, defence by the defendant, proven evidence,  judgement and the compliance to the judgement seen in the Malaysian principle of justice are on par  with the ones found in Periyapuraanam text. In terms of differences, the identified ones include   technological  use,  jail  sentences  and  punishment  for  the  cruelty  towards animals  and   death  sentence  for  certain  crimes.  These  indicates  that  the  principle  of justice is  general and inherited. Overall, the findings proved that the principle of justice is  strongly   practiced  and  adhered  by  the  people  regardless  of  the  time  periods. Ultimately, this  study implied that the literary texts such as Periyapuraanam can also be a source for people’s perusal to obey the country’s laws in everyday life.
