Abstract : Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris
Kajian ini bertujuan untuk memahami dan menjelaskan kelangsungan pendidikan informal Seni kolam dalam perubahan institusi sosial masyarakat India di Bandar Sitiawan, Perak. Kajian ini dilakukan berdasarkan senario semasa dan kewujudan permasalahan dari konteks institusi sosial dalam menangani cabaran memartabatkan seni kolam yang berdepan dengan arus globalisasi. Kajian ini hanya tertumpu kepada pelukis-pelukis kolam di Sitiawan, Perak, Malaysia. Kajian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif menerusi kaedah kajian kes. Teknik pengumpulan data melibatkan temu bual, pemerhatian, rakaman visual dan dokumen. Terdapat tiga puluh(30) buah karya kolam dianalisis dalam kajian ini yang dilukis oleh pelukis-pelukis yang berasal dari Sitiawan, Perak. Sumber data utama diperoleh melalui temu bual terhadap yang 14 orang informan dalam kalangan orang India yang berasal dari Sitawan dan ahli agama dari negara India. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan terdapatnya pengaruh persekitaran, nilai, perilaku, dan keperluan dalam hasil kolam yang diekspresikan sebagai representasi pengalaman visual pelukis di bandar Sitiawan. Ciri-ciri perubahan institusi sosial dalam kalangan masyarakat India di Sitiawan masih dapat mewujudkan identiti terhadap olahan idea, gaya, dan kreativiti dalam penghasilan karya seni kolam melalui kelangsungan pendidikan secara informal. Dapatan kajian ini diharap dapat menjadi panduan dan berpotensi dalam menyumbang kepada pengetahuan bagi sebuah negara yang mempunyai kepelbagaian kaum.
