Abstract : Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris

There are 16 punctuation marks in the Malay. Each has its functions in writing. The correct use of these punctuation marks is necessary in conveying a massage accurately. As such, this study aims to analyze the functions of these punctuation marks in the Malay. This study also aims to reveal the correct use of punctuation marks by teachers dan pupils. Finally, this study will also serve as a guide to teachers on the strategies of teaching punctuation marks. This research evaluates the use of punctuation marks by teachers and pupils. The study reveals that teachers have not fully mastered the use of these puctuation marks, and thus the lack of proper use of these punctuation marks by pupils.
