The research attempts to offer a mechanism in assessing performance of Research Management Centre (RMC) short term project for the year 2000 to 2005. This purpose was achieved by establishing a set of performance indicator mainly in the aspect of relative efficiency covering both input and output factors of RMe. In this situation, the efficiency of8 participating units (faculties) involve in the research were calculated using two different approach, the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) and the MUltiple Linear Regression Analysis (MLR) Method. DEA was used to measure the overall performance, which includes the achievement ofall output criteria while MLR was used to measure the individual output criteria, as well as investigating the relationship between input and output factors. In Addition to this, the ranking of participating unit on their overall performance and individual performance was also done. For Overall performance it is found 4 out of 8 Faculties were found to be productive or efficient. The main factors that significantly influenced the number of completed projects are average of time in completing the project. In the aspect of total research grant (RM), total staff, total staffs with Phd and average of time completing the project are found to be most dominant factors. While for number of research grant project in unit the average of time completing the project gave the greatest influence
