Abstract : Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris |
The purpose of this project is to develop a guaranteed quality of service management systems for multimedia network based on mobile agent. The system which is built as an e-Learning kit consists of a computer software for video streaming Lecture-on-Demand (LoD) via internet with guaranteed quality of service. A number of research methodologies and design have been employed to develop this product. A survey was conducted to increase the validity of the instrument utilized; while a system analysis was used to gather information on quality of service for multimedia network over internet. A simple computer software design based on waterfall process was used to develop the computer software system. The computer application using java technology enables the system to be interactive and allows increase in its use by publishing it in the world wide webs for public use through controlled internet. There are real-time traffic and non-realtime traffic in internet. Multimedia application over internet is a real-time traffic. Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) which is used by internet at network layer in network management system only provides best effort quality of service. Real-time traffic such as multimedia application needs a guaranteed quality of service. In this project, a dynamic system is developed based on mobile agent system called MAS to negotiate bandwidth allocation at host node according to Markov theory so that the bandwidth can be maintained in the range of 100Kbps to 100Mbps as suggested by Cisco System to guarantee the multimedia network quality of service. Since this project focus on multimedia application specifically LoD, thus the system performance analysis is based on seven important and critical parameters, i.e. bandwidth, network utilization, CPU utilization, memory utilization, delay, packet lost and jitter. Several extensive experiments are performed to collect data and evaluate the performance of the system in the same operation environment for TCP without using MAS and TCP with using MAS. The results of the paired sample t-Test analysis show that dynamic system TCP with using MAS performs significantly better than TCP without using MAS at level p < .05 with bandwidth greater than 100Kbps. |
