Abstract

This research aimed to study the feasibility of establishment of Tuanku Zara Salim Edu-Forest at Behrang Forest Reserve (BFR), Perak. To achieve this aim, we performed inventories on small mammal, bird, and insect species and studied their IUCN conservation status and protection under Wildlife Conservation Act 2010. From the survey, we found that there were three species of small mammal, 13 species of birds, 32 families with 29 genera of terrestrial insects, and 23 families with 36 genera of aquatic insects at the BFR. Almost all of the bird species were protected where three species were classified as nearly threatened and one as vulnerable. Based on these findings, BFR serves as an important area for wildlife conservation and has high ecological value for animal biodiversity studies. Therefore, the establishment of Tuanku Zara Salim Edu-Forest at BFR is highly recommended as it can provide wide opportunities for students, academicians and local communities to conduct educational activities.
