Abstract : Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris
Tujuan kajian ini adalah untuk mengetahui faktor-faktor penglibatan gengsterisme dalam kalangan murid India di sekolah menengah. Secara khususnya, kajian ini meninjau hubungan taraf sosioekonomi keluarga dan pengaruh rakan sebaya yang mendorong kegiatan gengsterisme murid India. Pendekatan kuantitatif dengan reka bentuk kajian tinjauan telah digunakan dalam kajian ini. Sampel dipilih dengan menggunakan teknik persampelan bertujuan melibatkan 234 orang murid India tingkatan 1, 2 dan 4 dari 7 buah sekolah menengah harian di Wilayah Persekutuan, Kuala Lumpur. Tiga jenis instrumen kajian digunakan iaitu Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment (IPPA), Instrument Kuppuswamy Scale of Family Socioeconomic Status (1976) dan Instrument Attitudes Toward Gangs (ATG). Data yang diperolehi dianalisis secara deskriptif dan inferensi dengan menggunakan perisian SPSS. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan bahawa min berada pada tahap tinggi bagi keempat-empat faktor tahap sosioekonomi keluarga; persekitaran sosial tempat tinggal, pendapatan seisi keluarga, sikap pendidikan ibu bapa dan institusi kekeluargaan. Analisis selanjutnya menunjukkan hubungan positif yang kuat dan signifikan bagi kedua-dua taraf sosioekonomi keluarga dan pengaruh rakan sebaya kepada penglibatan murid India dalam gengsterisme. Kajian ini menunjukkan bahawa taraf sosioekonomi keluarga dan pengaruh rakan sebaya merupakan faktor penglibatan murid India di sekolah menengah dalam gengsterisme. Secara ringkasnya, kajian ini dapat memberi input terhadap guru, ibu bapa, pemimpin masyarakat, Kementerian Pendidikan, Polis Diraja Malaysia, Yayasan Pencegahan Jenayah Malaysia dan Institut Kajian Etnik bagi meningkatkan keberkesanan pembasmian gejala gengsterisme dalam kalangan murid sekolah.
