Abstract : Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris
Orkestra Tradisional Malaysia (OTM) ialah sebuah orkestra yang menggabungkan alat muzik Melayu, Cina, India, Orang Asli dan kaum pribumi Sabah dan Sarawak. OTM mempersembahkan gubahan muzik baharu yang diilhamkandaripada muzik kumpulan etnik ini. Dalam pembinaan satu bangsa, Malaysia menubuhkan OTM untuk mewakili negara baharu dengan identiti nasional yang bersatu. Persembahan muzikal OTM bertujuan untuk membangkitkan semangat nasionalisme dalam kalangan masyarakat berbilang budaya di Malaysia. Tradisi muzik Malaysia yang pelbagai telah mencabar komposer, pemuzik dan konduktor OTM dalam penghasilan gubahan muzik untuk persembahannya. Objektif penyelidikan ini adalah untuk: (a) menganalisis bagaimana kepelbagaian muzik tempatan Malaysia diintegrasikan ke dalam gubahan muzik OTM (b) mengkaji pemilihan lagu, alat muzik, dan program persembahan yang bertujuan untuk membangkitkan nasionalisme (c) mengenal pasti penyelesaian OTM terhadap isu mengadaptasi kepelbagaian talaan, gaya muzik dan ciri-ciri alat muzik dan muzik Malaysia. Penyelidikan ini menggunakan metodologi kualitatif yang memfokuskan kepada etnografi. Data dikumpul dan dianalisis melalui pemerhatian temu bual separa berstruktur dengan tujuh informan terpilih berserta bahan audiovisual, temu bual yang dianalisis secara berterusan menggunakan kaedah analisis interaktif. Saya berhujah bahawa kemuluranisme (fleksibiliti) tersendiri adalah konsep "nasionalisme" yang wujud di kalangan pemuzik, komposer dan konduktordalam pembinaan persekitaran pembangunan gubahan muzik yang diilhamkan oleh muzik masyarakat berbilang budaya di Malaysia.
